i have some new info from...'a source' about the all new fleet of holdens.

no more push rods sad to say. the new V6's will still be 3.8 litres and now have double overhead cams...so its a ****ing quad cam now... :(

V8's are being exported to the states and we are gonna start producing the massive 6.3litre 427ci so put in a 🤬

the 5.7litre 350ci motors are going to be produced increasing in 200cc increments. e.g. 5.7, 5.9, 6.1 etc and they will also have the option of a single or twin turbo.

the cross 8 has 7 test vehicles out. 2 in north WA, 2 in SA, 1 in NT and 2 more going out today to northern NSW. they will have the new quad cam V6 donk.

i am kinda sad to see the pushrods dissapear...but hey, imagine a twin turbo 6.3litre V8 in a commodore...id imagine over 400kW stock standard.

i can see many people dying though but its good to have more muscle in australia. funny that everyone suddenly wants australian motors and cars...maybe people overseas have actually taken their heads out of their asses and realised that we do not ride around on emus and that we are capable of mass producing great cars.

 :holden:

I can't believe you're defending that old 3.8 litre V6 - fair dinkum, at full revs it sounds like it's swallowed a bucket of nails, and it doesn't even go that hard anymore (it did haul arse in the VN, to the point of almost being undriveable as a manual in the wet) - that motor's a shocker. The best 6 they ever ran in the Commodore was the old Nissan 3 litre straight six - shame they stuff the turbo installation.

Both motors will benefit significantly from DOHC - especially in the areas of fuel economy, emissions and revs.

i defend the pushrods because they are easier to work on than others.

your right about the VN's they went downhill after that. i drove a warm vp with 270hp and that was ok.

i have been looking forward to holden bringin better fuel econemy and this is a big step but if something goes wrong, it will be harder to fix myself.

if i bought any commodore it would be a VN SS. it may be over 10years old but they can be fixed up better grunt than the new ones and you cant go past a carbie 308 with a pump ;)

I was under the impression that the VN SS was EFI - wasn't that the whole reason you couldn't get the V8 for a while, because Holden was working on it - actually, now I recall it was quite a big deal when they released the 8 for the VN because it was EFI.

Unfortunately with ever tightening emission regulations, plus refinement demands from customers, pushrods are going to become fewer and fewer, particularly with manufacturers going to modular engines.

Sadly the days of my fixing about 90% of any problems with my '76 Corolla are long gone.

yeah the vn ss was an efi 304ci v8, id switch to a carbi 308ci v8 with a fuel pump. its got a rod ratio made for 8500rpm and is relativly simple and cheap to fix.

Looks like ol'Bobby Lutz makin some changes in GM. GM might be dropping the Buick 3800 V6. GM is going to make Eco-Tec Crate Motors for Front Wheel Drive Drag Racers.
