Yep, fortunately the MX-5 isn't a turd, it's the car that almost singlehandedly revived the convertible sportscar market.

Great find Sage! 👍 I am not a big fan of the new exterior updates but I like the interior updates alot and now I just wonder if they upgraded or changed the engine and suspension! :D

It looks like a Z8, with different headlights and taillights.

Just based on the styling of the new Miata, I think it will make an excellent successor to M1 & M2. I look forward to reading about its specifications when they are released. If only the Mk3 MR 2 was this good.

I like the interior, too. Only thing that I don't like are the headlights.

P.S. I wish Mazda made an coupe out of an Miata(like the BMW M-Coupe).

Having a Miata coupe is a very practical idea if done right, but I doubt it would be a hot seller. The M coupe, despite looking extremely awesome, sold very unsuccessfully. It also wasn't as practical as most hatchbacks having very little cargo room & no rear seats.

True. I'm not an big fan of convertibles, so I'll never buy an Miata, but if it was 2+2, "M-Coupe" style hatchback, I'd want one.

You could always get a hard top. Miatas are among the best handling cars ever made. The main reason that I would never get one is because I can't even fit in one. They're also slow unless modified.

Hey guys, most roadsters these days have an option of a removable hard top -- INCLUDING the Miata. Additional cars to the list would be the S2000, Z3, Z4, Boxster, and Thunderbird.

It'll most likely get the 2.3 liter, 160 hp engine found in the base Mazda6 and the Mazda3 Sport with the Mazdaspeed version likely getting a turbocharged version of the same engine ...

It could be just me, but I find the removable hardtops ugly. If you own an convertible, it's an nice option, but if are not an fan of convertibles, it won't make up for an fixed hardtop IMO.

That car does not look as good as the last generation Miata / MX-5. Unless it's powered by a more-powerful version of the current 1.8-liter 4, a newer (more powerful) piston engine, or a rotary, I don't think that car is going to sell as well as previous generations. :indiff:

Cautious compared to some of its peers (Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, BMW Z4, Mercedes SLK230) but when you're #1, you don't try to rock the boat too much.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new specs for this new Miata. Perhaps a displacement bump is due? Nothing major though. Something in the area of 200 to 700cc's. Keep it N/A and twin-cam, though. That's part of the car's elan. ;)

It won't use the 1.8 liter ...

It'll LIKELY see the 2.3 liter engine out of the Mazda3 Sport (as stated before), although there are rumours that it may get the 170 hp Duratec 2.5 liter V6 (found in the Mercury Cougar) or, even better, the 220 hp Duratec 3 liter V6 from the Mazda6 Sport ... I very much doubt the 2.5 liter will be used considering its age (almost as old as the outgoing 1.8 currently found in the Miata) ... I guess it all depends on whether Mazda intends to try to move the Miata into BMW Z4/Porsche Boxster/Honda S2000 territory or keep it as an entry-level roadster (which sells a hell of a lot more than the Z4/Boxster) ... I think if they try to compete with the BMWs and Porsches of the world, they'll ultimately fail ...

I guess we'll find out for sure on February 28th when Mazda releases official information ...

I normally don't say that a car looks too much like another, but it has a little BMW Roadster in its design. The Miata was told to be one of the most feminine cars in the world according to responses from my thread entitled "'Feminine' Cars." I'll tell you this. This one surely has some muscle to it. But is there muscle in terms of a hunky guy on the beach having girls attracted to him like bees to honey? Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, it's exterior and interior design at its best. Good one, Mazda. And uh, zoom-zoom!

wow, i think it is ugly, but managable. a lot could be done to improve the look. the impressed headlights are ugly, so are the buldged fenders.

i think next year mazda will fix it though.

Like the bonnet line, pretty cool and curvy. Mostly interior and exterior wise it's nice. I'd never own one, but still nice. The rear lights are the biggest downer, they look lame aftermarket style.

I'm not really feeling this one, even though my wife and I had an M1 Miata and I like the M2 quite a bit. I think the RX-8esque tail lights are totally out of place on it. Maybe I will warm to it after seeing it in person.

I like the new styling. It's like the previous gen Miata, but more agressive.
Isn't that funny? I think it looks way less aggressive the the Mk II. In fact I think this one looks a little sleepy.

Though I admit I was worried based on the RX-8 and some of the detailing cues on the 6 and 3. They could have messed with success a lot worse than they appear to have done.

The wheel arches are too heavy for the stock rubber. Kind of like a base WRX.
