New PS4 Controller First Look

^ My hands are bigger than most (size 12 ring) so I cant hold the PS3 very long at all. My hands get very cramped up on the PS2 and PS3 controllers. I always had problems with smaller controllers. I can hold the xbox and 360 controllers for hours and hours with no problems.

I feel the xbox controller is more intuitive, and I prefer the triggers (and possibly the sticks though it's hard to call) but after prolonged use it's more uncomfortable. The small buttons also hurt if you have to use them a lot (eg. those who use them for accelerate and brake, I personally use the triggers) and the D-pad is far less precise than the DS3's.

I think I prefer the DS3 but it could do with being a little bigger (for me anyway) and I do use a silicone skin for extra grip and caps on the sticks, also clip-on triggers until they break. Not liking the concave design of these new sticks though, tried some rubber caps shaped like that on my DS3 and it didn't really work. A domed but nice and grippy top is ideal, but that might be because I use the tap-tap-tap correction method in GT5 and driving games rather than have my thumbs in constant contact with the tops of the sticks.

I can only use the wired Xbox controller because the battery pack pinches my fingers. I have quite long fingers and feel perfectly fine using the ds3.

Makes sense. I do not have large hands.

The xbox360 controller is more comfortable than the ps3 one and has better triggers. There's no way to deny that.

I strongly disagree. Xbox 360 controllers make no sense to me and the feel of the triggers is not better than the DS3 in my opinion. The only thing I agree is the quality, I've had 2 trigger buttons springs snap on my controllers and I've had to open them to replace them.

I actually like the new controller. It looks a little bit more comfortable. The sticks being further apart should be no issue since they appear to be at the same distance from the rest of your hand... the only diffence is that your hands will be further apart, but the stick will be at the same distance from each hand.

It's important to keep in mind that this is a prototype. As all prototypes, it's unfinished and probably doesn't look entirely as the finished product will.

I have large hands and the PS controller is fine for me with years of playing with it. Why some keep thinking this is the retail controller is beyond me, clearly its a prototype and wasn't even meant to be seen at all.

The touch pad is fine , Its right were the select and start button goes. The move part seems like unnecessary precision that can be achieved with modern gyroscopes.

The triggers for my 360 controllers squeak like no tomorrow. My PS3 controllers do not and are about the same age. But seem like they break easier.

Best parts about the DS3:

No batteries
Bluetooh
Good weight
Good D-pad
No batteries
Wired or wireless
Only one design
Analogue buttons
No Batteries

Not to mention that the PS3 supports a lot of third party controllers if you don't like the DS3.
My, I have to admit, crippled hands can't use the 360 controller, so I hope the PS4 pad will be similar to the DS3.

Ew at those analog sticks. I hate using the ones with that have the little pit on them.

Why? Do you not like your thumb being able to grip the sticks?

I'm very used to them not being there and position my hands accordingly. They feel very uncomfortable to me. Its almost like an irritant to my thumbs. Quite honestly I feel as if I'm in less control using sticks like that. I have the same issue with Xbox controllers even though they don't have pits.

I have heavily abused PS1 controllers that still work like brand new and the rubber hasn't failed me. Those are from the '90s. Don't see why the need a change now.

I love the DS3 in its current form and frankly I don't see what's so bad about those new ones. I'm sure they'll have improved grip due to the grooves on them...

One thing I do like is that the cut out/groove around both button face areas is gone, they always collect the usual grime from hands, especially the small arrows on the D-Pad section.

This photoshop doesn't look too bad.

I dunno why people complaining. Current Xbox controller is way better than current PS3 controller, THERE IS NO DEBATE ABOUT THAT!

So why all the anger? You really think new controller is gonna be less ergonomic than current one? They probably use xbox controller as a benchmark, maybe it's even better than xbox one.

Whilst I prefer the Xbox controller (the triggers are great) the D-Pad is crap. They just need a hybrid controller of all the best bits from others.

Vita D-pad is great btw.
