I'm okay with this, oddly enough.

The question is, will the film makers be able to capture that feeling of magic once more?

My expectation level may depend on the success of that other Emmerich/Devlin film coming out this year. If that's a stinker, then, well....

Nice - I'm with them on this, starting afresh rather than continuing so far down the track. Funnily enough, as I'm playing Far Cry: Primal at the moment, I smile quietly every time I encounter one of the gateway rings. I know it's not the same, but...
