New to GT. Is there a freemode?

This is going to be my first GT game. I used to be primarily Forza but now I'm looking into playing both since I got a cheap PS3 on black friday. That said, I have a question:

Will there be a "Free Play Mode" where every car is available for me to use and experiment with from the start? This is pretty much the only mode I'm interested in. I'm not much of a career mode guy. I'm much more into just experimenting with different cars.

So will every car be unlocked when I first get the game in a custom race mode? Or will I have to unlock cars individually to use them in just a custom race.?

Thanks so much for your time guys.

There is an "arcade mode" where you can test a limited handful of cars with no need to earn cash.

But, if you want to get the other 900 or so cars, tune them, and play online, you'll have to play career mode.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll surprise yourself and actually enjoy career mode.

^ Dang. Alright then. I heard that it's quite a grind to get some of the cars. How long would you say it would take to purchase all the cars?

This one is quite tricky. There is arcade mode but it does not have all cars (probably a hundred or two, maybe less).

But in the actual GT mode, all cars should be unlocked from the start (since GT6 does not have a level system like GT5 did). Though, you need to get the credits first to buy them which requires playing some career and other races. But once you have done enough career, you are able to earn more money faster and at that point, it is up to you what cars you want to buy.

E: Since in GT6 you will be able to buy credits from the store, if you are really inpatient, there is that. But it can eat up your wallet quickly.

BUT

Give the career a try. Unlike in other games, GT career is different. It is not as long as in other games (from my experience) and it is more free. You don't necessarily need to complete or win all races in one class to get to the next, only certain events may be enough. And you can easily go back and complete/win the races you didn't before. + there all kinds of fun stuff to do (coffee break events, special challenges...).

I don't know how much GT6 career is different to GT5 so I might not be 100% correct.

I don't know the Cr rates for GT6. In GT5 there was an update later to boost the rewards. But still, the start is slow, you earn like 5'000 Cr each race. But later on, you are most likely able to win 500'000-1'000'000 credits (or even more) per 15-25min race (as you did in GT5).

E: Oh, and you do win cars from career events. Some of them can be quite expensive too.

E: Just a warning, I don't know how much different the cost of cars is in GT6, but in GT5 there are cars that cost 20 million credits. (And I have them all ;))

Thanks a lot man that really helped. And ya there was a video posted showing all cars in the dealership. There's a lot that cost 20 million.

The best way to earn credits is from the seasonal events. Some races you get a couple thousand for, and if you've got the right car, right tune, and are a skilled driver, you can get up to a couple million a race.

Tree'd by @Ittybitty Stigy! But yea, what he said. The seasonal events provided a fair amount of money in GT5, especially with the performance difference bonus (more money for using a less powerful car). You could easily get 20 million in about 2 or more hours for doing the seasonal events.

All of them? Haha... considering there are 1200 cars... a year or so?

Depends how long you intend on playing it every day.

I've never felt the need to get every car in the game, just the ones I like, so I can enjoy the majority of my time with my friends online.

Most of the 20M cars are useless. Massive disappointments. I guess they are only that expensive because they are "rare" or "imaginary".

I would have to butt in and say that probably 50% of the cars available you don't have to buy. There are so many duplicate cars and so many nonsense cars that are no fun to drive (like the kubelwagen, schwimmwagen, 2CV, samba bus etc etc), and then you have all the awful commuter cars that have no place in a racing game.

I'd say a few hours, including animations ;). You don't need to grind in GT6, you can buy credits with real money if that's your thing!
