I believe its to do with keeping costs down as these are meant to be the bottom of the range. Or it's possible they are just pre production models.
You got it with the first one. Cost-saving. New Twingo does the same thing.

Realistically, so many cars have aircon these days that nobody really rolls down windows anyway, let alone the back ones. All you usually get from lowered back windows is beaten senseless by the wind, so simple pop-outs probably work well enough to extract warm air.

A year has passed since these cars were shown at the Geneva. I really liked the new Aygo, so I decided that it will be my first car. =)

Took the black X-Clusive version for a test drive. Engine start button, gearbox with flappy paddles, "racing" seats and a steering wheel with flattened bottom and other sporty things. It really wants to be a race car. =)

I liked it, but I got the X-Play version with a couple of extra packs. Only a couple months of waiting left!

Looks pretty sharp!

And I really like that interior, makes our north american Yaris look horribly outdated in comparison.

That interior looks amazing, nice and futuristic. I love how it kinda looks like a baby LFA. Congrats @unit-one , what colour did you go for?

'First' cars didn't look so cool when I was 17. :indiff:

^ It will look like this. :3

Here's a video from Geneva. The car on the podium has different wheel rims, no mudflaps, black mirrors and a manual transmission:

I'll make a thread in "Cars in General- Member's Rides" when the car will arrive.

I just noticed that the rear window will not roll down, it looks like it will just pop out. :odd:Why?

It's a helluva lot simpler mechanism than a roll-down window. You simply put a hinge on one side and a motorized latch on the other, like a minivan or BMW coupes. Plus, it's a more aerodynamic solution, is quieter, and isn't nearly as intrusive for rear seat passengers.

EDIT: I quoted a year-old post. New personal record!

Out of the C1/108/Aygo trio, the Aygo appears to be the only one that'll see a new generation, and it has been previewed in the Form of the Aygo X Prototype:

Despite its familiar side profile and rear light arrangement, it's an all-new vehicle based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Cross. It has already been spied testing, but it is clear to see the next Aygo will be less of a city car and more of a subcompact urban crossover.

On first impressions, I must say it looks really good!

After the couple of years I've spent with 'my' 108, I'll be quite sad to see the end of my current lease and the adoption of a more expensive car on my next. The thing has really done everything I needed it to do, how I needed it to do it. The drivability of the thing has been pretty good at all speeds and the surprising amount of space has really spared me any ribbings from my giant friends.

Bit of a downer to think that the next econobox from Stellantis will depart from the lineage that the last two machines have set up, but on the same token should be interesting to see what direction they take with it.

The Aygo, on the other hand - not my cup of tea in that I'm starting to suffer slightly from crossover fatigue due to them being pretty much every fourth or fifth car that I see when I'm out and about.

Looks like a better Forfour to me than the current Smart Forfour. Think I still prefer the concept's headlight treatment, but glad to see Toyota committing to models smaller than the Yaris when the Aygo's TPCA siblings have already been chopped.

omg, I like it! There are improvements in design compared to the concept! I had a 2015 Aygo and I loved it, but it needed a better gearbox and a bit more power. This new one looks really interesting!
Looks like it keeps the same good sounding engine tuned to 71hp like the facelifted last-gen model. The 5-speed X-shift robotic transmission is replaced by a S-CVT... hmm, I don't know what that is... the planetary e-CVT on the Yaris Hybrid is really smooth. New gearbox allows manual shifting? So it will simulate gears? I also see that they kept the paddle shifters, I liked those. =)
And looks like no difference in performance, that's a bit sad. At least in 0-100 times.
The green Limited Edition looks cool. Can't wait for a test-drive =)
(yeah, I'm hyped for this smol budget car xD)

Oh, I dig it. However, the thing is heavier than a Swift(870kg) and almost matches the MX-5(960kg). What the heck? Thought it would be at least in the under 800kg class, like my old 2005 Charade 1.0.

Really not a fan of the 'Crossover all the things!' trend we're seeing at the moment, but this isn't too bad on balance. On the outside, it does look a lot more bulky than it needs to be, but the overall evolutionary approach Toyota have taken to this Aygo does show a good degree of promise as a refined city car.

I do like the interior as well. It's nice and cohesive and gives off a premium feel from what is in truth the same number of elements that are found in the current Aygo. I especially like that they've borrowed the climate controls and steering wheel from the Yaris in order to avoid spending extra millions on developing 'cheaper' ones.

What with VAG, Stellantis and Ford seemingly abandoning the A-segment in Europe, this should be quite the success over here.

See? They could have made it under 800kg. Didn’t need to increase every dimension and weight.

Huh, energy flow monitor? But it's not a hybrid... Interesting...
