NEW User in a reasonably priced car: Ideas please

I'll track down an '88 Accord tomorrow, prep it and then have some fun and PM results later that night đź‘Ť

MadMax, I'm not sure what you mean about the HP figures. I was only wondering whether the oil change was to perform after or before the HP cut-off. As in, would an Impreza that shows 244 HP on the garage screen before changing the oil go in the 151-250 class, or the 251+ HP class (because it goes to 266 HP or so after changing the oil)?

And I sure did use the MR2 GTS! It was indeed my fastest time for the 151-250 category, and in fact, turned the fastest lap of all the sub-10k cars I found and tried. :odd: It's great fun to drift around the corners, and a small slide is actually the fastest way around the hairpins. I now have a time for all events; I just have to wait for others to submit theirs so that Ev0 4 drifter can post them up.

HP figures = numeral amount of HP (sorry that my english ain't allways clear enought)
Allways after oil chance , is my opinion...

I'm pming to Ev0 4 drifter now so that he gets started with leader board. :scared:

right just to clarify you MUST give the car the oil change, THEN find out which class it goes into :) i.e Impreza - 244bhp before oil change, after oil change it has over 251bhp so goes in the 251bhp and over class.

Wasn't aware that I had missed such important points,
NO AIDS. The TG Chevrolet Lacetti doesn't use them so they are NOT permitted.
You can only have one time in each class, this is to keep the score boards small, you MAY however send me revised times for each class as you get faster :)

I have the PM'd times on a list now, I will go through the thread to find other times, but until there are a few times on the scoreboards you MUST pm me your times :)

I didn't realise this was in a sutch a big scale alredy..
If that's the case I prefer you to recategorize the cars down to every 50 hp
to have more accurate leaderboard.
as it seems that under 150 HP and 151-250 HP will get pretty crowded , as most of the cars fit into that range
I know this because from the 20 times I have pm'd you 12 fits to the Class 4 (151-250 HP) and 4 fit to Class 3 (under 150 HP)

Most "Kei" cars are under 100 BHP in the under 150 HP Class
and there are some cars that are way faster in the same class just because they have more power.

Limiting the amount of entrants will eventually lead to that people don't consider other cars than the leading cars to be worth of driving.
And that's not what you ultimately want , is it?

Just curious if this thread will be updated with fresh times. Then I'll find a car I like and go after someone's time.

I've sort of... not done any races because I think it has grown a bit out of hand.

One track. One car. Go. Is IMO the best formula for this.

bah, I sux- '88 Accord, rollcage/oil/N3, class 1 (Tsukuba): 1:19.963

Dunno what I'm supposed to do with that other than go have a picnic at Tsukuba- PM times? board? wha?

I agree, this is way too complex. Keep a running leaderboard in the first post, and watch it grow as more members decide to join over time. We should have a poll to decide the best car and track though. Personally, I find Tsukuba too short and flat (but if it were to be chosen, everyone should run dry in the interest of fairness, and the addition of the chicane was a cool idea).

With college work coming in left, right and centre I kind of haven't had time to update this, the only compulsory class is lass 1, 88 Accord in the dry. With jinxtigr's time (even though it was posted rather than pm'd :sly: ) I feel there are enough times to put a decent leaderboard together (as previously stated I wanted around 5 times before the board was posted) so I will set about posting it up tonight, and times are now to be POSTED HERE :)

I was thinking more along the lines of Infineon Sports. It's got a variety of corner types, as well as elevation change. It's a great all-rounder, imo.

I contest the choice of '88 Accord as Reasonably Priced Car.

The idea of Top Gear's RPC is a compact, modern, bargain-basement economy car, with low hp, FF, and nothing sporty whatever. The Accord is FF, lowish-hp, and leisurely, but it was no economy car, rather large, and certainly not modern.

I suggest something French. They're quite modern in GT4 without being anything near exciting or expensive. The Chevrolet Lacetti seems to me best approximated by a French econocar in GT4, because those are some of the most truly boring cars in GT4.

I apologize for not being totally specific about my suggestion, but the sheer forgettability of the French econocars should do well in my logic.

Well, since he said he had

...college work coming in left, right and centre...

and also said

...times are now to be POSTED HERE :)

I'm just going to put mine up for comparison.

Accord dry: 1'15.979
Accord wet: 1'21.349
<150 HP (Toyota MR2 Spyder '99, 140 HP): 1'09.067
150-249 HP (Toyota MR2 GT-S '97, 240-something HP?): 1'04.711
250+ HP (Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe '97, 280-something HP?): 1'05.350

Yes, I know the GT-S is faster than the Camaro. Crazy, huh? If anybody wants me to put up the exact horsepowers, I can, and I can also take a video of any of these laps. đź‘Ť

I also would not object to adding to or revamping the competition. I need some sort of GT4 challenge now that the WRS and EDK's race series are over.

Here are my current times:

Class 1
'88 Accord - 1'16.592

Class 2
'88 Accord - 1'22.503

Class 3
'89 MX-5 - 1'12.557
'83 SPRINTER TRUENO GT-APEX - 1'12.679
'97 STARLET Glanza - 1'13.966
'00 SIRION X4 - 1'14.986

Class 4
'97 MR2 GT-S - 1'06.411
'96 200SX (S14) - 1'07.729
'97 MR2 G-Limited - 1'08.467
'84 SKYLINE HT 2000 - 1'09.086
'92 Lancer Evolution GSR - 1'09.548
'85 RX-7 GT-Limited - 1'09.560
'95 INTEGRA TYPE R - 1'10.070
'89 Galant 2.0 - 1'10.755
'91 PRELUDE Si VTEC - 1'10.798
'97 CELICA SS-II - 1'11.458
'83 Lancer EX - 1'12.062
'98 SPRINTER TRUENO BZ-R - 1'12.221

Class 5
'97 Camaro Z28 - 1'06.394
'95 IMPREZA Sedan WRX Sti Version II - 1'07.500

Great times there Austin343 đź‘Ť

regards

MadMax

I really think that this idea would be better if there was one car, bought new and kept how it was. Because on top gear they stick the person in the same car and it's not star in a car which they bought for less than 10000 quid that has less than a certain amount of power.

Agree?

Agree.
Is there not a Suzuki Liana(?) available to buy ( the original Top Gear reasonably priced Car iirc ) ?

Suggestions (ordered by price):

- '03 Mazda Demio Sport (14,500cr, 111hp)
- '97 Eagle Talon (15,740cr, 138hp)
- '03 Scion xA (16,000cr, 107hp)
- '02 Toyota Vitz RS Turbo (18,880cr, 147hp)
- '02 Mini Cooper (22,190cr, 113hp)
- '00 Fiat Barchetta (24,060cr, 128hp)
- '01 VW Lupo GTI (24,160cr, 123hp)
- '03 Renault Megane (26,390cr, 131hp)
- '01 Peugeot 206cc (26,520cr, 134hp)
- '01 VW Polo GTI (26,720cr, 123hp)

I'd also recommend N tires, for realism.

Also, since this is new user in a resonably priced car, the car and track must be availible in arcade mode from the start.

This would also mean it must be done in arcade mode, whatever transmission, no aids and what tyres? Can you use those sim tyres in arcade mode?

I'm slowly getting through my college work, so far I've had 12 assignments to complete, things like dry sump vs. wet sump, how to calculate compression ratios, 4 different kinds of electrics (wiring in lights, calculating fuses etc) and the most recent is fwd gearboxes vs. rwd gearboxes, which one is better, why, and how they work. so I'm still snowed under til christmas, then it will be exams til about april :( rest assured though I am keeping an eye on things :)

depends what you want it for, for being cheap, light and small fwd is best, but thats what i have to look into, the main thing i have to do is list the advantages of both, and the disadvantages of both

But would it not be better to start out with an FR vehicle? I'm only thinking in terms of learning proper technique for handling such a car. FF cars in this game don't go very far in terms of power or usability after a certain skill level is reached, so it would be a natural progression, I think, to start with something like an '88 Silvia Q and then work up from there, no?

I just remember from GT1, that I started that game out (and each subsequent game, for that matter) with a Silvia K or Q and then moved on from there.

My assignment refers to real life, but in terms of this competition Top Gear use a fwd car đź‘Ť the '88 Accord is closest to what Top Gear actually use, so for now I say it stays :)

Okay, guess that means we have a car, the old accord. We have tyres, n3 (roads) no aids. But we really need to aggree on a track ...

Please refer to post #26, I posted the list of rules there, including cars and tracks, although as soon as I have finished this assignment I'll have a look at other tracks, purely in the interest of getting as close to TG in terms of lap times (1.47 - 2.06 iirc)
