New Wheel

I bought a Logitech Driving Force Wireless for $AU50 on the weekend. The low-end model, not as shiny and spiffy as the GT or the G27, but still a whole heap better than the DS3 controller.

I'm a father of three with a mortgage, so a $500 or even $200 wheel was never going to happen, but the lap-mounted DFW is still a really nice unit and most importantly, it took 6 seconds per lap off my time at Glendale with the Alfa Guilietta. Second most importantly, it's just more fun to drive with a wheel.

Either way, it is worth thinking about if you are a casual player like me who only has a few hours a week to play.

Good work mate! Its amazing how much the enjoyment factor goes up with a wheel... My son and I are almost done with building a cockpit with an old Supra passenger seat etc, we tested it out for the first time last night with the wheel and pedals....AMAZING how much cooler the game was. So, my suggestion...get you some wood, some nails and start a bulidin' yourself a place to sit and use that wheel!!! 👍

It sounds awesome and I can assure you, I spent time browsing the web looking at cockpits wistfully, but right now it's a nice to have. When my wife has a new deck out the back and when the bathroom is fixed up, I might be able to look at things like that.

To keep the discussion on Shift2, the one thing that did surprise me is the gearing. I play automatic with the DS3 controller and switched to manual with the wheel.

I have to say, I'll be needing some practice to get the timing right. The first few times, I missed the fact that you actually need to put the car in first gear for the start, the next few times I was so busy maneuvering for position that the car went "NEEEEEEEE" in first gear before I changed to second.

I do like being able to brake with the gears into corners - much more stable.

I don't have anything quite so fancy and to be honest mind worked out of the box. Plug it in, no calibration required, everything auto detected. Sure, it took about half an hour to get the hang of thing.

Have a look around on this forum and the official NeedForSpeed.com forums, I do remember there were a ton of threads about setting up a wheel properly

I just try'd a few different set-ups on mine and still found my DFGT set-up was the best, NEWDRIVER you will have to sep-up your cars for the wheel too.

Sounds like you need to turn your sensitivity down. You only need 100% if you are using the 5 turns lock to lock. You need to adjust it downwards proportionally to how many turns you are using.

I use a GT wheel.

I use a GT wheel.

For the record my 'Steering Sensitivity' is 35% with the default 360' of rotation.

'Speed Sensitivity' I've got at 70%.
