If rumours of leaked news across the Atlantic are to be believed, there’s a new Xbox 360 games console on its way – and it could include an integrated HD-DVD drive.

An employee at Gamestop has revealed that the retailer has been given information about a new Xbox SKU for the Xbox Ultimate. Apparently, since Microsoft decided to introduce HDMI connectivity to its Xbox Premium consoles, the latest Elite will replace the Premium – leaving space for a new high-end console.

This follows recent price cuts for both the Xbox 360 consoles and add-on HD-DVD drives in the States.

The new model is said to include an integrated HD-DVD drive, which with HDMI connectivity will appeal to HD film enthusiasts and boost flagging HD-DVD sales figures.

If this does come out and the price is right, along with the developers looking to use HD-DVD's for games, then I may have to buy this.

I don't know why but this really frustrates me. Why couldn't they just put this stuff in at the start?

If they release this 360 ultimate, I will have to buy one simply because of the integrated HD DVD (which makes things much more tidy) and HDMI. Then I have to sell my 360 at a knockdown price.

That is Microsoft for you, remember they don't like doing nothing else then making more money.

Won't really be "ultimate" if it's at M$ all the time...

The only thing Microsoft would need to do is make the Ultimate better then the other Xbox 360's is to make it a bit bigger for more airflow and improve all the cooling components.

Also I reckon Microsoft would need to find ways of cutting down the size of the HD-DVD drive, because it looks like it would take up more space then the current DVD drives in the current Xbox 360's.

There are so many good reasons for me to perform a running suplex on my 360 but it's the great games that keep me hooked.

Even assuming this is true (which is a big assumption for reasons Duck pointed out), the above is not gonna happen. Guess where the price would be then? And for that matter, MS won't design an entirely new system that will sell probably 4.
