It's funny be because because changing it to black theoretically would use more power since black is every color turned on at once.

Exact opposite, actually.

And I loved the dark colors, I think would be great to see it become a site-wide(As opposed to only on video pages) permanent option.

keeping it white would use more power since white is every color turned on at once.

FTFY.

Black is the absence of colour, and unsurprisingly, less power would be used if YouTube made it a permanent feature.

All you chaps do realise that whatever the colour being shown on the screen, it represents a pixel that's "on" rather than "off"? The energy difference between a black and a white pixel is minimal, but the thing both have in common is that they use energy.

Unless you still use an old CRT monitor that is, but who does that any more?

Useful info on the concept

The only surefire way to cut down on screen energy is to turn your screen brightness down. It also reduces eye strain.

I guess for computers ya it would be the opposite I am thinking more in real life terms. To print black it's more colors mixed while white is no color added. Also gotta edit my comment. Didn't realize I said because so many times lol.

Or, if you read the post directly above this one, you'll see it's not the opposite, but neither.

An "on" pixel is an "on" pixel. Black doesn't draw any more energy than white, or vice-versa. Unless you're viewing this on an old CRT screen.

I had a dream last night. It was about youtube. It had multiple small lightswitches lined across from the right side... They started black and went through in about 10 stages to white, and they all changed youtube's theme to suit. :P

So the switches were black, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, gray, white?

This is option for earth day is just as useful as a 🤬 flavoured lollipop

Power is still being used even if the pixel is black because the backlight behind the LCD is still on, the LCD pixel is just closed preventing light from passing which makes it appear black.

That's bad design. I thought otherwise.

OH wait that long buzzing thing you blow into? Sounds like bees? I hate that thing

There is a very funny story about them. In Greece we have a sportcaster with a high pitched voice that speaks all the time and very, very fast who has the moniker "Purupupu".

So, after a match at the S.African World cup he could not be heard commenting over the Vuvuzelas and the other day the press wrote "Vuvuzelas 1 - 0 Purupupu" !!!
