Yeah, the SS name on a Vette is a no-no in the world of GM. The only "Corvette SS" was a concept racecar... They would be better of bringing back names like Grand Sport, ZL1, ZR1, etc.
Hmm a C6 Z06 would look hot in grand sport colours.

Pushrod engines still have camshafts. The camshaft can be driven by a belt or chain, just like a OHC engine.

But your comment makes it sound like you have no idea what you are talking about, anyways.

EDIT: Oh yeah, pushrod valvetrain arrangements can both
a) fail at high rpms (bend a pushrod, quite common in drag racing)
b) sustain high-rpm power (consider a NASCAR engine, that spins to 9500 RPM)

EDIT 2: LS7 heads flow 360 cfm on the intake. Show me a factory OHC engine that can match that.

Im not exactly sure what Omnis is thinking but you just saved me explaining anyway :).

I'm sorry but I think this probably is another "blue devil" story, not a new model called SS. We've heard this sort of thing before and never seen anything come from it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if the car was made, however, I don't think we'll ever see the finished product.

For those that don't know what the blue devil is...

GM's Aussie branch, Holden, made a couple of 7.0L Monaros but production was canned due to the sheer cost of modifying such a large car. GM America saw a greater potential for the idea in the US and built a modified Z06 supposedly running a blown 7.0L. There are some spy pics of this car turning "faster-than-Z06" times around Nurburgring in mid-2005. GM has not officially acknowledged the car but has revealed that they are looking to top the Z06. The name "blue devil" is accredited to a number of different sources but is likely one of two;

1 - the test car is blue
2 - the guy who designed it is a Harvard graduate and named it after the Harvard blue devil mascot.

Replace Harvard with Duke and the guy who designed it with I think Rick Wagnor and you got it.

I only ever heard bits and parts of information about the 'blue devil', I honestly can't say for sure if it's real or not. My thoughts are it's a test mule for something bigger and badder.

Given: GM Will want to top the '06 Z06 sooner or later.

Given: GM has been putting SS on lots of it's cars now, the Camaro will surely carry an SS, and yeah, it's never been done on a Vette, but who in their right mind saw a FWD V-8 Impala happening either?

Rumor: Blue Devil=Corvette SS=Shooting for top of the heap, world beating performance.

Fact: I can't think of any but the most diehard vette purist that would mind seeing a Vette embarass the few supercars the Z06 can't hang with.

This is the car spotted driving around the 'ring back in June(?) 2005.

Nope, as far as I know, Chevrolet have no plans to produce the Blue Devil, and are keeping pretty coy about it.

It would be cool though.

This SS has nothing to do with the bluedevil. The source and I were both well aware of the blue devil rumours before this was posted.

Motor Trend ran a similar story about the "Corvette SS" back when the Z06 debuted earlier this summer/fall. At that point in time it was a rumor, and there really wassent much information surrounding the car. The idea was that it would be the next-best-thing to the C6R race car, but could be driven around town if needed... Kinda like an Enzo with a Chevrolet badge on the hood... While I am all for a street-legal version of the C6R that is more radical than the "average" Z06, there isnt any need for Chevrolet to resort to forced induction and going "slap-happy" with the SS badges.

I think its great that Chevrolet is comitted to making sporty models out of their standard cars and trucks, but they shouldnt go so crazy over it... I mean, back in the '60s the majority of their models could be had with an SS package, but they werent overly done and all had great execution to make them stand out...

I just looked at a Trailblazer SS this afternoon, and I came away pretty impressed. While it was parked in the showroom, it was pretty easy to see that GM went through the truck and fixed a lot of the minior issues. The seats are pretty nice, and I really like the special inserts added both in front and back to keep pasengers in place. The updated trim looks and feels pretty nice, but you wont mistake it for German quality plastics. The exterior was beautifully finished with clean lines and a pretty nicely flowing "bodykit" that stretched from the front to the back.

R/T on Dodges isnt a performance option, its a package level like LTZ or SLE with Chevrolet and Ford. Although the R/T option does generally get you the more powerful engine, its often the only way you can get a decent version of a Dodge product.

...If we go back in time, say 1968, Chevrolet had oodles of SS vehicles at the time... Nova SS, Camaro SS, Chevelle SS, Malibu SS, El Camino SS, Impala SS etc...

Today its the Cobalt SS (S/C and N/A), Malibu/Maxx SS, Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Trailblazer SS, and Silverado SS...

So technically, there are the same ammount of SS vehicles available, but today there is a wider selection of model types available with the SS package. Word is that the Tahoe could soon be given the SS makeover complete with the 400HP 6.2L V8 out of the Escalade and the 6-speed automatic, the slight possibility of an HHR SS, and still the Camaro SS...
