The 2006 SEMA Gran Turismo Award "Best in Show" title goes to Craig Morrison and his 1960 Chevrolet Corvette. This car will not be in the initial release of GT:HD, but it could be added later or it could be withheld until GT5 is released.

So at least this car will provide some American car fans so that they don't get hissy fits of not enough American cars. But look at this thing. I personally love '50s and '60s Corvettes. My new favorite Corvettes is the 1958 model. Surely enough, this thing is a beautiful work of art. I'm okay with the silver. I probably would have liked a certain dark blue or even red colors. I might even like it a little better if it was in black (I never admit to liking most cars in black). But this machine looks lovely. Lovely with a capital "L." Good one, mate!

This is something to maybe look forward to if you love American cars. Nice little car, eh boys (and girls)?
 
Double Post!!!:scared: anywho, the Corvette looks beautiful, tho i do agree with JohnBM01 in that it would've been better in color or black, especially black with a red interior. wouldn't it be cool if for one of the later games they let the people here on GT Planet choose the winning car, kind of a "Player's Choice Winner"...

um...i didn't exactly say i wanted the Corvette red...but anyways, yes a paintshop would be a nice addition.
 
Craig is going to test for 3Gs, too: 1G acceleration, 1G braking and 1G skidpad.

If GT 5 can mimic that properly, it will be a fun car to drive.

The Buick low rider thingy was from the SEMA show and the HPA Golf was from another show, I don't know about toher cars but I wouldn't be suprised if more were from car shows. Bear in mind though that PD still need to get a license from the manufacturer to include the car.

Yes, PD runs the annual Gran Turismo Awards at SEMA, to help keep in touch with the American tuner world. The Best of Show gets to be included in the game. Craig's car was also the Best Hotrod winner, this year.

Annual Winners:
2003: Ted and Sue Richardson's 1962 Buick Special (GT4), from Oregon
2004: HPA's Golf (GT4), Canada
2005: Stephan Papadakis's 2004 Honda S2000 (probably GT:HD), a sponsored Honda racer
2006: Craig Morrison's 1960 Corvette (version?)

The frames of both the Buick and the Vette were made by the same company, so there is even a relationship between those two cars. The HPA is the closest we have to a Canadian car.

I was thinking... wouldn't it be interesting if Gran Turismo HD and/or GT5 featured a SEMA Racing Challenge in which all the winners of the SEMA Best in Show award was part of a race featuring all the Best in Show winners? At this point, imagine a (at this point) race between four cars who won Best in Show. The participants would be as follows:

Buick Skylark Special
HPA Motorsports R32 Golf Stage 2
Stephen Papadakis' Honda S2000
Craig Morrison's 1960 Corvette

If there was such a competition between these four cars on a completely balanced race track (not too fast, not too technical), who do you think would win out of these four entrants?
 
I hate to say it but the buick and corvette get check off the list first. It's just a plain handling issue. If this were a strait line only then it would be different. Leaving the golf and the honda. I think I have to go with the honda. the honda would have overall balance and do well on an equal track

I believe that vette is supposed to handle rather well, it may look all classic but it isn't classic underneath, it's been built and setup to handle and tbh the first car I'd knock off that list is the Golf which handline wise would be terrible at high speeds irl as well as it being all round poor in GT4.

True...but I fugured that it more show then go underneath that sexy body. I am sure that all the guts are high performence with the street drivabilty in mind. The honda still has the edge for track setup rather then street.
 
The Honda is probably the most track ready car mentioned but the Corvette is definitely go. It's nicknamed the 3G because they're setting it up to be able to pull 1g latteral, 1g accerleration and 1g of braking force. The company that built it have already got a much heavier car to pull a .98G on the skid pan so they are experienced in what they're doing. That's some pretty serious stuff, it probably won;t manage all three under a test but even if it falls short by a little on all three thoes are serious numbers for a road car. It is not a 1960's chassis under that bodywork anymore ;). As for the Golf that's just a waste of time, short wheelbase and high speed is not a good combination, throw in a relatively high center of gravity into the mix and you only make it worse.
 
It really depends what it has under the bodywork, how much of it is out right race car material. i don't know anything about that S2000 other than it looks like a proper track car. To put things into perspective though, most cars do not pull 1G on the skid pan. The skid pan is by no means a definitive handling test though, but in the case of this Vette I do beleive these guys know what they are doing and can do it well.
