Ovechkin came along with 200 goals recently. His drive to 200 goals is the fifth-fastest in NHL history. Congratulations to the Washington Capital(?).

According to todays PTI's Big Finish, fighting in the NHL is up 24%. Can you believe that?

I have to say, I felt a sorry for Dwayne Roloson when he faced the Wings last weekend.
He definately didn't bring his "A" game. "B,C,D,E or even F" game either. And the coach didn't even pull him until the first intermission.

No offense, but as fast as they were scoring, he would have been out after the 3rd goal. No need to embarrass him any further. He's having an off night, get him off and let someone else give it a go.

I was glad to see Detroit shut out Cindy Crosby and the Penguins. If there ever was an overrated whiny player that I'm getting tired of hearing about, its Cindy.

I got really burned out last year watching the play offs on NBC (Nothin' But Crosby) hearing the announcers praising him for any little thing. There's Crosby taking a shot, making a pass, skating down the ice, taking a drink, tying his skate, blowing his nose . . . (I think you can see where I'm going with this. . .) So anytime I hear him and his team getting the short end of the stick, it brings a little smile to my face . . . Even more so when its MY home team.

I think that (s)he has claimed the top spot in my "overrated players I'm tired of hearing about from Eric Lindros.

Shocking News in Pittsburgh!
Pens replace Therrien with Bylsma

So he managed to turn a team around in a year and get them to the finals, and gets canned because the team falls short the following year?
Seems like the office got jumpy and needed someone to fall because of the teams lack luster season.

Don't they realize that most teams who make it to the finals end up falling short the following year.

Why, couldn't tell you.

But if I remember right, after being beaten by Detroit, Carolina and Washington missed the playoffs the following year, and Philladelphia was eliminated early.
(If I remember right that is)

At any rate, the dynamic of the team has changed from last years cup contending team.
They lost some key players during the offseason, and that will have quite an impact on a team.

Random (but relevant) jibberish... At least you're keeping the thread going. There have still been some threads where I haven't gotten ANY replies in, so fear not. My home state's NHL team, the Dallas Stars lost 1-0 to San Jose last night. I hope the Phoenix Coyotes can stay financially stable with some of the problems they've faced.

As for the Rangers, I think I heard they won two of their last 12 games. Ouch! The Rangers are usually a pretty good team. Sure hope they can bounce back any way they can.

Wings took it to the Sharks last night. 4-1 final.

I believe that they split the series this year.
Ty was on top of things stopping 34 shots and making some spectacular saves.

Only down side was Hossa left at the end of the second period as a precaution from an untold possible injury.

Trade deadline is 5 days away. Today Coyotes are heading to the Predators tonight. When did we fall this far behind?

wheee... i don't think anyone's posted here in a while... about a month. anyway... i'm a sharks fan. so i'm happy. i do have to feel sorry for any colorado fan, though. the west is SO competitive and they were just not enough...

The Canucks will advance after taking care of the St. Louis Blues. Congratulations to Vancouver.

The unofficial Round 1 NHL Playoffs Clutch awards have to go to the Washington Capitals. After starting very badly in the first races, they've gotten their act together and have been dominating the Rangers. Hope they win game 7.

Well, the Capitals came back and won game 7, looking unstoppable. And Carolina came from behind and in less than 80 seconds scored 2 goals to oust New Jersey. I feel bad for Jersey and Brodeur.

I hope that they take out the Pens.

Game 6 tonight against the Ducks.

Is there anything left in their tank, or will the Wings advance to play Chicago?

Things arn't looking so good for the Hawks right now. Looks like its going to be a rematch of last year. Cindy -vs- the Red Wings.

The 2K9 finals are set: A rematch from last years finals.

Detroit -vs- Cindy Crosby (and the Pittsburg Penguins)

Looks like Hossa picked the wrong team to win a championship with.

It's a great year for PittsburgH sports.

too bad i'm not a pens fan. go leafs go!!!!

Man, that's aNOTHER blow to the city of Detroit. Congrats to Pitt, though I didn't watch it or anything (I just sorta started watching some hockey this year and I guess I'm a Caps fan due to my girlfriend and her rabid Caps-loving family)

Also Kyle why aren't you a Pens fan?

It's funny really, I'm nuts about every other Pittsburgh team except for the Pens (even the Pirates), but when I was a little kid, I was obsessed with the Maple Leafs. Right around the time of Felix Potvin's rookie year, and Mats Sundin's first year with the team (91-92 ish) was when I remember getting into them, mostly from watching highlights on best of the NHL vhs tapes. I remember thinking that Potvin was the most bad ass hockey player in the world back then, and I've kind of been a leafs fan ever since.

Plus it's fun trash talking all of my pens fans friends when the leafs are actually good.

Detroit fail. I actually find it amusing since at the start of the playoffs I said the Wings wouldn't win the cup, granted I had them pegged to go out earlier. I still fail to see why everyone in Detroit gets so jonesed about a hockey team...we even have the nerve to call ourselves "Hockeytown". Maybe this will knock the cockiness level of the Detroit fans down a couple of pegs

Looks like Pittsburgh is this year's champion-town. But, Joey, the Red Wings have been a major team for a long time now. You guys might or might not be a hockey town, but you have an excellent hockey team for a while now.

The NHL still does an awful job of marketing and promoting, though.

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins on a lovely win. Enjoy Lord Stanley's cup... now every other team will want to kick your asses come next season! That, even including my home state's only NHL team, the Dallas Stars. Or unless, the IHL's Houston Aeros want to become an NHL team...
