On October 3, Wednesday Night Hockey returns to the NBC networks. I saw this as a promo during when I was watching either the NASCAR Cup race at Las Vegas or the IndyCar Series race at Sonoma Raceway. So get ready for Wednesday Nights to get hot again on the ice.

Remember the NHL getting locked out in the 2004-2005 season? Well, another lockout MIGHT be coming in this decade if things don't get settled. There is an article I read (skimmed, mostly) regarding a possible lockout sometime in the near future. Take a look: https://sports.yahoo.com/lockout-looming-nhl-1-away-155446987.html .

I surely hope we don't have another situation like in 2004-2005 with no games being played, or a shortened season like in 2013. There is still a lot to be desired at this point.

If it were happening now we’d be entering a lockout guaranteed. The players and owners are far from agreeing so let’s hope some progress is made this year.

I think Bettman really underestimated how big of a deal the Olympics was to the players. On top of all the other issues, I think that was the straw that broke the camels back

With how things have gone in the past I’m far from optimistic this will be a smooth process. Bettman will be looking at the fourth lockout of his tenure if things don’t get sorted out. Pretty pathetic.

Personal side note: I was supposed to be buying a used bubble hockey table on Sunday for my basement bar but the seller sold it out from under me after we’d agreed on a price:mad: I bought myself a Larkin jersey to offset my disappointment:)

A lot of hockey players can't wait to whack people on the ice. Earlier this week, Max Domi of the Montreal Canadiens was suspended for the rest of this Preseason for sucker punching Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers. Somebody just couldn't wait.

As of right now, a number of Preseason games are in progress. Here are current Preseason scores as of the time of this post:
* NYI Islanders at PHI Flyers (1-0; Philadelphia, End of 1st Period)
* WSH Capitals at CAR Hurricanes (1-0; Carolina, 12:42 left in 1st Period)
* CHI Blackhawks at OTT Senators (1-0; Ottawa, 11:44 left in 1st)
* BUF Sabres at TOR Maple Leafs (3-1; Toronto, 13:36 left in 1st Period)

Games to come:
* CBJ Blue Jackets at STL Blues
* TB Lightning at NSH Predators
* CGY Flames at WPG Jets

Thanks for reading!

I read that the Carolina Hurricanes will wear Hartford Whalers uniforms for two games against the Boston Bruins this upcoming season. According to Twitter, those two games the Hurricanes will wear Whalers colors will be on December 23 of this year, and then March 5 in 2019. The Hartford Whalers moved to Raleigh, NC in 1997. Social media is mixed on Carolina wearing their Hartford colors for two games.

* The Dallas Stars extended the contract of Tyler Seguin to an 8-year deal worth $9.85M USD. Sequin was (I believe) second-most in goals scored last season or so behind Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby. In today's NHL, that's good company.
Nope. Tied for 7th with 40 goals. Sidney Crosby did not rank in the top 20 in Goals last season. Still, good on Dallas for locking him up long term.

No games are slated for today, but there will be plenty of NHL action tomorrow. So what does your first Wednesday night of hockey for 2018-2019 look like? Here you go:

* MON Canadiens at TOR Maple Leafs
* BOS Bruins at WAS Capitals <<< WAS defending champions
* CGY Flames at VAN Canucks
* ANA Ducks at SJ Sharks

Not a bad card for Wednesday. You get Original Six action with the only two Canadian Original Six teams, you get to see the defending champions try to defend their crown, and you get a few more quality matches in America and Canada. It should be another fine season of NHL hockey if you're a fan.

Again- no games for tonight, but get ready for tomorrow night!

Can you feel the excitement? The new season of NHL hockey drops the puck later tonight starting at around 7:30 PM Eastern Time. If you have NBCSN, they will be showing the Boston Bruins at the Washington Capitals, then they'll show the Anaheim Ducks at the San José Sharks. Time to warm up the ice again!

Good luck to all of your favorite teams this season, GTPlanet. 👍

"Hit the ground running" must have been the strategy for Washington, because they were absolutely baller tonight. Two early goals in the first period, and then plenty more goals to win 7-0 at home. Good news for Boston... there are 81 games left in the season. Plenty of opportunities to win.

Congratulations to all other winners from Wednesday night.

NBC's Wednesday Night Rivalry is now just NBC Wednesday Night Hockey. I hope you enjoyed last night's action.

Eight teams started off the season right. Now, most of the rest of the NHL will play their first games of the 2018-2019 season. Here is the card for this Thursday night:

* BOS Bruins at BUF Sabres
* NYI Islanders at CAR Hurricanes
* WSH Capitals at PIT Penguins
* CBJ Blue Jackets at DET Red Wings
* NSH Predators at NYR Rangers
* CHI Blackhawks at OTT Senators
* WPG Jets at STL Blues
* ARI Coyotes at DAL Stars
* MIN Wild at COL Avalanche
* PHI Flyers at VGK Golden Knights

So how about that? Ten games tonight! Plenty of action for you NHL fans to digest in this opening week of NHL hockey.

Let me touch up on completed games from tonight as of the time of this post.

* After getting throttled at Washington, the Boston Bruins took their frustrations out in Buffalo against the Sabres. It was a 4-0 for the boys from Boston.

* Regulation solved nothing in Raleigh, NC; so bring on Overtime. The New York Islanders took care of business 2-1.

* Regulation didn't solve anything in Pittsburgh either. Washington's hit-the-ground-running win last night didn't result in the Capitals going 2-0. Instead, the Caps fell to the Penguins in a 7-6 slugfest (to use baseball speak).

* Even Hockeyville saw Overtime tonight. The Columbus Blue Jackets went into Hockeyville and won 3-2 in Overtime at the Detroit Red Wings.

* 3-2 was also the score in New York City as the New York Rangers were defeated by the visiting Nashville Predators.

* In Canada's capital city, the Ottawa Senators fell in Overtime 4-3 to the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.

* No Overtime needed in the Gateway to the Midwest, as the St. Louis Blues were singing the blues after the Winnipeg Jets smashed them 5-1.

* Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars did good tonight, holding serve at home to the Arizona Coyotes 3-0. The Desert Dogs could do very little up in Big D.

Congratulations to the eventual winners of MIN at COL and PHI at VGK.

Imagine signing tavares and needing g OT to beat Montreal and losing to Ottawa ROFL

Believe in the Shield- the NHL shield! Time to make your Tuesday night a bit more interesting with this lineup of games tonight:

* VAN Canucks at CAR Hurricanes
* SJ Sharks at PHI Flyers
* COL Avalanche at CBJ Blue Jackets
* CGY Flames at NSH Predators
* LA Kings at WPG Jets
* TOR Maple Leafs at DAL Stars

Have a great Tuesday night!

It isn't Wednesday Night Rivalry anymore, but it's still another Wednesday night of hockey action. Here is a look at how your Wednesday night of hockey is like this week. Are you ready for THESE games?

* PHI Flyers at OTT Senators
* VGK Golden Knights at WAS Capitals
* ARI Coyotes at ANA Ducks

Enjoy the action tonight!

Some Saturday talk...

* Man... Detroit got rope-a-doped in Boston. These two Original Six teams saw the home standing Bruins win 8-2. Pastranak (the "Pasta Man") got himself a Hat Trick for Boston in grounding the Red Wings.

* It was more a heartbreaker in St. Paul as the Minnesota Wild lost 5-4 hosting the Carolina Hurricanes.

* Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars did good on Saturday, sinking the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 up in Dallas.

* The Toronto Maple Leafs doubled up the defending champion Washington Nationals 4-2 in Washington, D.C. Dem' Maple Leafs. Toronto currently leads the Atlantic Division with a 5-1 record and 10 points.

* Not a good night in Chi-Town for the St. Louis Blues in this battle of two Midwestern teams. The St. Louis Blues lost 4-3 in Overtime at the Chicago Blackhawks. St. Louis and Minnesota are currently tied for last place in the Central, both with a 1-1-2 record and 4 points.

* Maybe reality is setting in for the Vegas Golden Knights. Even though they won 1-0 at the Philadelphia Flyers, Vegas is 6th in the Pacific Division with a 2-4-0 record and 4 points.

* You have to imagine just how long a flight can be to go from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Sunrise, Florida, USA. The Canucks traveled a long way, and they were treated to a 4-3 loss in Overtime at the Florida Panthers.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday's games.

Want to see an NHL game tonight? There are eight you can choose from tonight! Let me get you hyped...

* NBCSN will show the Arizona Coyotes tangle with the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul, MN. ARI is 8th in the Pacific Division at 1-3, and Minnesota is 7th in the Central at 1-2-2. So not exactly a glamour match this is. But still, it's some good old NHL hockey in the Midwest.

* One team playing tonight is still undefeated- the New Jersey Devils at 3-0. The Devils will host the 3-2 Dallas Stars.

* One team playing tonight has yet to win, and that is the 0-2-1 Florida Panthers. The Panthers are at the 2-3 Philadelphia Flyers tonight.

* Only one Original Six team is playing tonight, and that is the 1-4 New York Rangers. The Rangers will host the 3-1-1 Colorado Avalanche.

Enjoy some NHL hockey on this Tuesday night, will you?

How do you all like the 2018-2019 NHL season so far?

It's Hockey Night in America (and Canada)! Let's make your boring Wednesday night a little more exciting. Tonight's card looks like this:

* STL Blues at MON Canadiens
* NYR Rangers at WAS Capitals
* BOS Bruins at CGY Flames
* NYI Islanders at ANA Ducks

Not much else to say but... enjoy some hockey tonight!

Oh my goodness! Heading into tonight, Detroit is 0-4-2 to start the 2018-2019 season! Hockeytown not exactly baller this season so far. I was surprised seeing this when I poked around on Yahoo! Sports. So far, Detroit and Florida are the only winless teams heading into tonight (FLA is 0-2-2).

Right now, Detroit is tied with Tampa Bay 1-1 with 9:57 in the 2nd Period in Tampa Bay.

A little rundown of Saturday hockey coming up.

* Detroit finally got themselves a win. They needed Overtime in Sunrise, FL to get their first win of the season. It was 4-3 as the Red Wings of Hockeytown tamed the Florida Panthers.

* Regulation didn't solve anything in St. Paul, MN either. The Minnesota Wild treated the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-4 Overtime victory.

* Toronto is pretty baller right now, but what happened when St. Louis came to town? If you guessed a 4-1 win by the St. Louis Blues, you're right!

* Now to the other Canadian Original Six team- the Montreal Canadiens. Staying in the great province of Ontario, Canada's capital city saw their Ottawa Senators win 4-3 in Overtime.

* The Desert Dogs went to Winnipeg for a little hockey. The Jets of Winnipeg tamed the Arizona Coyotes 5-3.

* 5-1 was the score as the Los Angeles Kings lost at home to the Buffalo Sabres.

That was only some of the many games played today and tonight. Congratulations to all winners from Saturday's games.

At 8:00 PM EDT, NBCSN will show the San José Sharks at the Nashville Predators. That's right- hockey in "Smashville." The Predators lead the Central Division currently with a 7-1 record and 14 points. San José is 4-3-1 with 9 points, fourth in the Pacific Division.

Times are tough for the Detroit Red Wings, but someone is suggesting Hockeytown is "trying not to score," if you can believe it. Peep this article: https://sports.yahoo.com/red-wings-trying-not-score-season-040845176.html . That's something you'd hate to look at considering one of the proudest franchises in National Hockey League history.

Looking ahead... tomorrow night, NBCSN has a doubleheader of Wednesday Night Hockey, including Auston Matthews and his Maple Leafs paying a visit to the Winnipeg Jets. And in case you don't know, A. Matthews is pretty baller. NBCSN tomorrow night will also show the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Colorado Avalanche.

You folks enjoy some hockey tonight and tomorrow night, ya?

Next Wednesday is Halloween. This Wednesday is another night of good old NHL hockey. So how does this Wednesday night look? Here are tonight's games:

* FLA Panthers at NYI Islanders
* TOR Maple Leafs at WPG Jets (NBCSN Wednesday Night Hockey)
* TB Lightning at COL Avalanche (NBCSN Wednesday Night Hockey)
* VAN Canucks at VGK Golden Knights

Enjoy tonight's action!

Halloween Eve! Tonight's card is stacked with 11 games to be played. NBCSN will show the Vegas Golden Knights at the Nashville Predators. That's right- Bobert power's Predators of "Smashville" are all dressed up and ready to go (to quote Kevin Harlan) for tonight.

Other matches...

* The Edmonton Oilers will host the Minnesota Wild tonight.
* The New Jersey Devils will head down south to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning.
* Detroit's woeful season so far sees the Hockeytown boys meet the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus, OH.
* In Montreal, the Canadiens welcome the Dallas Stars.
* The Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Boston Bruins.

Good luck to all of your favorite teams.

Happy Halloween! The National Hockey League would like to treat you to a match tonight, because nobody wants to be tricked. So tonight is only one game: the Chicago Blackhawks at the Vancouver Canucks. Unfortunately, tonight's game will not be on NBCSN tonight. It will instead be on WGN (maybe not WGN America) and the NHL Network.

Only one game tonight; but tomorrow, the NHL will have an interesting match to be held in Helsinki, Finland. Two of Finland's own will compete as part of the NHL's Global Games series. That game will feature the Winnipeg Jets against the Florida Panthers. After that, there are 12 other games tomorrow to be played either in the USA or Canada.

Enjoy tonight's action in the meanwhile!

Happy and shocked to see the Wings get the W last night. Fully deserved against a good Columbus side too. It's just a shame that we can't play CBJ and Flordia every night for the rest of the season. :D
