The AE86 sells for on average 20 thousand dollars in New Zealand.
Really? Even I didn't know that.

I got mine for a whopping 1700$, which is awesome for an AE86! There's normally the tofu tax where they're overpriced because it's a popular car =P
SR5's are rather easy to find for cheap, its the GT-S's that get rather expensive at times. Some guy up the street from me was trying to sell his GTS for 6k, completely stock(not a bad thing), and it did not look well maintained.Sorry for quoting an older post but, man, I would definitely buy one if I could get a good one at those prices! Curse the drift tax, can't find one any lower then 5-6 grand over here (and that's saying if they're in good condition).
What are you planning do to in terms of wheels down the line, if ever? AE86 owners I speak to say all kinds of things so I'm curious.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. If you plan on buying an AE86 for the sake of making it a track car or like a super performance car, you won't get much out of the 4-AC. I mean yeah you can get a racing cam and weber carb to bring it up to about 130 bhp(90 stock lol), but it still has rear drum brakes and a lack of an LSD, which will hurt lap times. If you want to make a serious speedster, it would probably be cheaper in the long run to spend the extra money and buy a GT-S. I didn't and even though I'm gonna be addicted to this car the rest of my life, I know I'll spend probably tens of thousands of dollars tuning it up and making it truly awesomeI will look out for an SR5 then! Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. Either way I haven't found any cheap ones. Would be good as a little second car.
Oh, and like I said, for now my goal's just to get a GT-S rear end, I'm only 19 and I have lots to learn before I can drop my dream 4-AGZE in. I've already got a nice muffler and some good shocks and springs(both adjustable) so now it's time to get onto the big parts. Like I said this is also gonna be a build thread so you guys'll know what I'm up to if you even care XD I know it's a little silly to start an SR5-GT-S conversion, but at least I get the satisfaction of building my own AE86, and it was one of the few AE86's for sale around here the time I got it since I needed a car and no GT-S's were around. So I settled for an SR5 not really knowing better since all I wanted was an AE86 and I knew next to nothing about cars then XDSorry for quoting an older post but, man, I would definitely buy one if I could get a good one at those prices! But hey I have an SR5 and as a street car I love the thing to death! Sure I plan on dropping a 4-AGZE into it later on and completely revising the suspension and rear axle, but for now it's a perfect car to learn RWD on! I mean hey I can even hold my own against the stupid ricer kids in their civics and I took on an AW11 MR2. So far very few if not one car has maintained my cornering speed =P
Everyone bashes on the SR5 for not being the GT-S, but personally I don't think that's a bad thing. Plus 4-AC's are bulletproof, mine's almost at 400,000 miles and it's fine! It's when you start modifying it is when it all starts falling apart, and you suffer from what we like to call "Rolla life"
But yeah SR5's are awesome if you just want a fun car that's still a true AE86 ;D

right now, just any version of the 4-AGE engine and a GT-S rear end lol. I have a good feeling that by the end of this year I'll be able to show off some new parts I'm getting so I can at least get the most I can out of an SR5. It's a lot more than you expect, to be honest!I would take one of these in a heart beat.
You got a wishlist for it yet lol?
the 4A-GZE
wait... isnt that engine the one he wants to install ?Why would you go to all that effort of installing a different motor in a car for a worse engine...?

Oh shoot this isn't the thread I thought it was
I'm on another forum and someone has a title really similar to this but it's about a GT86 - I saw your post and immediately said "Why the hell would you take out the Boxer for a 4AGE??"
My bad!
Some dudes have already swapped the 4-AGE into their FR-S's in club4AG lol. Sure it's weaker, but there's gotta be a better reason than it sounding betterOh shoot this isn't the thread I thought it was

I don't think my forehead could have hit my desk any harder...
WHY?! It has a higher center of gravity, less power and if I'm not mistaken only extremely marginally lighter?
I literally don't understand that logic.. not one bit..
So they don't sound like a canal boat.
