The long awaited successor to the Switch has been officially announced.

Bigger screen, magnetic connection for the Joycons, backwards compatible with Switch cartridges. More details coming in April. Possibly a first look at Mario Kart 9 in the trailer.

Hands-on experiences in April in several countries

I don't think nintendo have ever played it so 'safe' with their next generation console since the SNES days.

Don't blame them, the Switch was a huge hit.

As long as I get a new Mario Kart and Pokemon game, I'll be happy.

The first one looks guaranteed. New track, carts, more players in the footage shown - it’s definitely not just an expansion of 8 Deluxe.

Also completely different art style mixing the classic cartoon art style with the art style of Wonder. (Though DK looks ripped straight from the movies).

The fact it might support 24 racers is insane though

Wii U was fairly safe... in that they did nothing to improve it.
Wii U failed cause it was trying too hard to say its not safe by having the entire marketing around the new controller and its innovations to the point people didn't think it was even a new console and just a Wii add on

I'm glad that they confirmed physical backwards compatibility. Some places had been speculating that it might only apply to virtual titles. I hope colored joycons aren't going away though, those black ones look super bland by comparison.

So now it's been officially announced and coming this year, I finally face the big dilemma - Steam Deck or Switch 2? Highlander rules - there can be only one.

Well theres a new Mario Kart so Switch 2 wins by default

Damn, new Mario Kart World looks fantastic. I'm in. Day One. Take my money Nintendo. Free roam! It's Mario Horizon.

Console launches June 5th.

Oh no Mario Kart now has rolling starts.

Soon Chase the Rabbit GT7 races will come in

Some more thoughts:

More initial support than Switch 1 - quite a few big name ports (Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, EA Sports FC and Madden, 2K WWE and NBA, Hogwarts Legacy, etc) and some new games launching day 1 with other consoles.

1080p/120fps/HDR handheld, looks like 4K/60 docked. Happy the console is not thicker than the original despite the bigger screen.
LCD rather than OLED will annoy some people.

The games themselves are a bit expensive, a jump from the previous gen (that's either tariffs or Nintendo deciding they can charge what they want, maybe both). They're also going down the Sony route with paid upgrades for last-gen ports.

The mouse controls with the Joycon could be very useful.

I'm never using the chat or camera. Never.

I'm happy Nintendo has revealed Metroid Prime 4 info for Switch 2 but oddly still no release date mentioned for the game. Probably safe to say it won't be a launch title?

The stream was terrible. Didn’t think you could fumble the reveal of the successor to the switch so bad - I was wrong.

Maybe it is Tariffs? Japanese prices are lower and have been region locked to Japanese accounts only to prevent cross country buying.

I'm keen for Mario Kart World, Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgraded, Kirby Air Riders and FAST Fusion (sucks FAST Fusion didnt get a proper trailer, just 5 seconds and refused to elaborate.)

MKW is a necessity. I didn’t play TOTK as I’d sold my Switch so will get the upgraded version of that. i’ve had issues with DK games in the past (Tropical Freeze almost broke me) but this new one looks a lot like Super Mario Odyssey so that’s encouraging.

Not sure if I’d get any 3rd party games (I have enough other options - PS5 & Portal, Macbook for some PC stuff).
