In 2002, Nissan made a big decision about JGTC. They stopped using a heavy and old-fashioned RB26DETT and used a V6 called VQ30DETT instead in the middle of the season. This change caused a great improvement of turning speed of the car. In the same year, its driver Kazuyoshi Hoshino, whom some called Japan's fastest driver, ended his racing career. Next year he started a new career as the manager of Team Impul.
