Autech has been well known to create tuned versions of Nissan production cars that were generally sold by Nissan themselves, very similar to Nissan's NISMO department.

While they are most well known for the Pulsar GTi-R, Stagea 260RS, Skyline GT-R Autech & Silvia Varietta, they also created a limited production vehicle with the help of Zagato.

The car, based on the Nissan Leapord, was unveiled in 1989 as the Stelvio AZ1, going on sale in 1990, and featured a 300HP V6 with Italian Zagato styling and a hefty price tag. Another special feature of this very rare Nissan is it's unconventional "NACA Ducts"m which may not look appealling but they did allow extra cooling to the engine with minimal reduction to air flow.

The main downside to the Stelvio AZ1 was it's 4 speed automatic transmission, while the car could have benefit greatly from a traditional 5 speed manual.

203 Stelvio's were built with a pricetag of ¥18,000,000 ($160,000) although one example went for just £28,000 on eBay.

...Well, that's hideous. Zagato must've been suffering from a hangover when he penned this. Or maybe it was the janitor who accidentally ended up receiving the fax from Japan and decided to have a crack at designing a flat-pack car...
