No handbrake?!

You're better off doing it the correct way, improving your trail braking till you can get the car to rotate the way you need it to. When round 8 opens up and the heavy hitters start going all out, E-brake and the like aren't gonna be of much help.

Anyone use 'heel-toe' or 'rev-matching'? I saw these terms used in another thread but after reading it seems more of a clutch thing.

I rev-match my downshifts out of habit, but I don't even know if it's doing any thing. It's just engrained in my brain to blip throttle on downshifts.

You guys are really funny, I can't tell you how many times I used my hand break out on course yesterday in the event I was competing in. It is a great way to add temporary rear brake bias in slow corners to pull the front end in when the car is pushing a bit. I've used it in all the various cars I've competed with. Its a fairly advanced technique, it takes practice to use it this way without over doing it and locking the rears. It doesn't work nearly as well in GT5 for additional (non locking) rear breaking though.

Well using the handbrake in GT Academy will probably give you a few more seconds off your time, but you wouldn't do that in a race car with racing tyres would you?

Ask the guys in F1, ALMS, Grand-Am, DTM, WEC, Indy, NASCAR, Aussie V8's etc. how often they use the handbrake to turn...enough said!

Hey, it REALLY works! Ask any of the professionals from D1, they use it on just about every turn.

I have notice kind of what your saying when I watch one of the alien rockets when I'm chaseing their ghost, as I'm all over them then they cut a corner out of nowhere and I just go skiding off the track w/ my jaw draging on the ground and can't figure out "WTF" just happend.

As for fast and consistant Jet your both, just amazing (2nd fastest overall for the U.S.)

-_- They are professional drifters so of course they're going to use the handbrake.

D1 Drifters aren't allowed to use the handbrake.

And the only reason they're pulling on you in the corners lefty is because of throttle control. Check the replays, the ebrake is on there. They are NOT using it. Jett's trolling you guys.

My bad, they are only allowed to use it on certain sections and corners, but still...

Another reason why people online are pulling on you might be of apex timing. If you are going through a hairpin then it might be a good idea to apex a little late. If the corner is a high speed one and wide, apex early.

Thanks Sohn and Mster, I have never been able to get it to work where it's productive. So maybe your dead on, when they redirect, they have their timing down to lean on their edges at the right time so it just looks like they manufactured traction.

Even without using the clutch you are rev-matching?

Edit: I'm starting to get a little anxious...anyone else?

What are you feeling nervous about? Oh, and I will admit that I rev-matching even though my DFGT doesn't have a clutch :nervous: .

Yeah, it's just a habit. In iRacing you don't have to clutch downshifts even on h pattern cars, so I just LFB and blip it into gear.

I'm going to focus on practicing this a little. Thank goodness I became proficient with LFB'ing last year... So I'm going to LFB, tap gas, downshift? All roughly at the same time, right?

Perdy darn quick there Skinny, I don't see you in the top 5000 for 6-5 whats up?

Lol I wish man. Everyone, including myself, isn't putting in the time we should at the moment. 8-5 will be a lot different but it won't keep my nose off the grindstone. I picked up GT5 again, right before I was going to finish my time on 6-4...so 6-4 and 6-5 I haven't really worked on. In fact I don't know what 6-5 is yet. Mmmmmm speed test dlc....

Anyway, thanks for the compliment Lefty. I think thats a first for me. :D

Yo "Skinny" if you keep tripple posting you'll get to meet one the Mods and they will yank your chain.......... use the edit button........ :)

I'm not forum savy. LOL Sorry Mods.

Edit: Hehehe...I'm actually not sure how to clean it up with Edit. I'm looking but I can't seem to get multi quotes working proper for me. Sorry again mods, it's gonna stay this way till I get smarter. LOL

Just ready for the 8-5 grind. :)

God damn, triple post.... I honestly think that Jordan should make the multi-quote button bigger so that people don't miss it so easily. But don't worry; triple posting is nothing. I've seen 21 post streaks before.
