World Council decision

The seven teams are guilty of failing to ensure that they were in possession of suitable tyres for the United States Grand Prix but with strong mitigating circumstances.

They where guilty of wrongfully refused to allow their cars to start the race having regard to their right to use the pitlane on each lap. They where not guilty of refusing to race subject to a speed restriction having regard to the absence of any detailed plan for this.

Not guilty of combining to make a demonstration for the reason that they had hoped to race until the last minute. They where not guilty of failing to inform the stewards of their intention not to start for the same reason.

The World Motorsport Council has decided to adjourn discussion of any penalty until an extraordinary meeting of the WMSC on Sept 14th. The WMSC will also examine what steps have been taken by the seven Michelin teams and their supplier to compensate the Formula 1 fans and repair the damage to the reputation of the Indianapolis Motor Sped at and the image of Formula 1; what steps have been taken by the Michelin teams to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.

What to make of this?

I believe they're postponing this, so the racing can continue. But I'd rather see some decisions, so we can go on and leave this behind us.

Guilty F1 teams face unclear fate

Motorsport's governing body the FIA has deferred judgement on the seven teams involved in the US Grand Prix fiasco.

Renault, McLaren, Toyota, Williams, Red Bull, Sauber and BAR were found guilty on two of the five charges they faced at a hearing in Paris on Wednesday.

The teams were found guilty of failing to ensure they had suitable tyres and wrongfully refusing to start the race.

Penalties will follow on 14 September so the teams and tyre company Michelin have time to repair F1's image.

Michelin has already announced plans to refund the 120,000 fans who turned up on race day at Indianapolis, as well as distribute another 20,000 tickets for the 2006 race among them.

It is right that Michelin should refund the fans.......but as for distribution of new tickets.........its suggests that there will be a USA GP next year.

I don't undertstand why the teams are now found guilty of refusing to start the race though?

It is so stupid though, it wasn't the teams fault they bought unsuitable tyres, they were depending on Michelin. The teams have no responsibility for that and should get no punishment.

Haha, the new tyre rule is kinda pointless when the teams gets to pay hundreds of thousands every time something happens. They probably haven't made a dime since the new rule.👍

It wouldn't surprise me if they have to pay for the petrol too when pitting.
