I like Nascar 09's way of doing it. IPL system. or Incidents per lap.

It basicaly counts how maney wall touches rubs, crashes, shunts, spins. and gives you a score. And the game will only match players with a score like yours.

So all the idiots that cut corners ram into the back of people, will all be put togeather, wile the clean drivers will also be put togeather.

I think this is one of the best systems around and I cant belive it was EA that came up with it. Of course it does have some problems but even in real life penalty systems have issues. But like I said BEST in a BAD world.

It sounds like an interesting system.

Anyone here play iRacing? I believe it has a similar system? If there is contact between two cars both drivers get marked for the incident. Of course, a person who is consistently driving badly will not progress as fast as a driver with a cleaner driving style. From what I have heard the penalty system is a bit harsh, but it seems most folks think it is good to have in the game.
:)

If only... sounds like an excellent system... the guy who keeps hitting people will get black flagged... and if the user does it continuously over multiple races, he gets a ban from the server. First ban is one-day... second is one-week... third is... :D

The penalty system is one of the most ****ed things in gt5.. You can even get punished with 5sec for beeing "pushed" out on the grass like 2cm out of the road... But crossing the grass on susuka online YES WE CAN !

Yeah, the penalty system sucks big time. It would be a better idea if they added the time penalty on top of your total time and place you accordingly. Sort of like, TOCA 3.

The way iRacing works is it penalizes your overall license points and skill points (or something like that) depending on how many incidents you do over the race (off-track excursion, bumping into other cars, crashing into other cars etc.).

The reason it works really well is because they've made it so that you can only progress to the faster cars (and therefore other tracks) if and only if you get past a certain number of overall points. And the way it awards and deducts points, you can end up like say winning the race, but that one bump or off-track excursion has nullified your points gain. The emphasis is on driving cleanly and you will essentially not progress at all to the faster cars unless you do a lot of races where you race cleanly. To me, the system makes sense. You don't want to allow people to jump online in like a fast open wheeler without becoming an expert in the slower cars first.

I read that NFS Shift will use a profile matching system where by it monitors 2 key elements from your offline racing - Agression and Precision, then allows you to join an online race that has people with a similar profile... nice idea

I think the penalty system is pretty good, its never going to be perfection.

Only sometimes you can get a penalty for side bumping when it was the other guys fault.

If Damage is in GT5 i would still like to see similar penalty system because people will just turn off their console when their car is badly damaged who could be the one hosting the race.
