Rules

Nominate four cars with a photo to match each.
Don't clog up the page with lots and lots of videos; links to videos are fine.
You can change your post and your nominations right up until the closing date.

Provide any supplementary information you wish, but don't give us an 8 page essay.

The top four cars with the most nominations will go through for polling next week.

Eligibility

Cars which competed in World Championship events during the 1990-1999 Formula One seasons.

As far as I am aware, there are no criteria which may preclude nomination. If something does come up over the course of the thread, a ruling will be made.

If you have any quibbles about your nomination, tag me in your post and I'll get back to you.

Reasoning

If possible, please give some justification or reasoning for your nominations.
You can choose based on livery, body shape or a combination of the two. It's up to you.

---

Nominations close in the evening of SUNDAY 19th June.

Okay, I am jumping straight in with this one before we get the slew of Jordan 191s and Ferrari 643s.

1991-1993 Tyrrell 020

I utterly despise the look of pretty much all mid-90s F1 cars. The 1998 rule changes made the cars look so much better IMO

McLaren MP4/13

Benetton B199

Williams FW18 - to me the most iconic '90s car, with one of the greatest liveries ever.

Arrows A18 - somehow very simple but everything in it is just about right.

Arrows A19 - how to pull a black livery off properly.

The Arrows A19 is another top, top, top favourite of mine and only just failed to make the cut.

Just edited the A18 in, I was trying to decide between it and the A19 and originally went with the latter but why not both indeed.

Lotus 107 (1992). One of the first F1 cars I remember seeing as a kid. Among the best shape/colour combos I can imagine after all these years.

Williams FW20. As much as I admire the old Rothmans colours, I can't get over how striking the switch to red was with the end result looking nothing short of excellent.

McLaren MP4/13. The much needed livery change didn't quite click for me with the MP4/12, but that all changed a year later.

All pre-1995 stuff from me, because the regulations turned them into ugly messes with the high-nosecones afterwards, and I don't really like any of them.

One of my favorites back in the day was the 1992 Williams FW14B. The front wing itself is a work of art.

And it could dance, too :D

The Ligier JS39 was also a gorgeous car back in the day, with the minimalist livery and simple, pure lines.

The McLaren MP4-7 is, IMO, the best looking McLaren yet. Shame it didn't quite perform as good as it looks.

And finally, the Minardi M193.

I think a lot of this is about the livery for me, as I'm a sucker for blue French racing cars. I know it's almost a Benetton but I love the 'simple' uncomplicated looking design with the blue livery.

1991 Footwork FA12 Porsche
Another simple looking car with a simple lcieru but I love the elegant shape and how it looks very aggressive with the hole car angles forward. Shame the engine was just an underpowered ballast weight.

1990 Ferrari 641
This is my earliest memory of Formula 1, low and wide with an almost plain scarlet paint job. I'll always remember a red Ferrarinwith Agip and Fiat thanks to this car, it is my favourite looking of the early post-turbo cars. (Unrelated to the looks it has the amazing Ferrari banshee-shrieking V12 as well 👍 )

1997 Ferrari F310B
The last year of the wide cars and tyres and Ferrari made a stunning looking car. Perfectly proportioned and the gold wheels with Goodyear tyres just finish it off perfectly. Again a nice simple but effective livery, Schuey may have disgraced himself this year but at least he looked good doing it.

I do rather like the Ligier JS39. The 1995 Ferrari 412T2 is pretty fugly and a horrible evolution of the much better looking 412 of 1994. I really do not know why so many people love the T2.

I can't think of one which hasn't been mentioned...but damn I wish the livery-designers of modern race cars would take a look back every now and then and see what bold/simple designs can do for a car.

Quite a difficult choice for me as my favourite F1 cars (and for some strange reasons, Le Mans prototypes as well) are from late 80s-late 90s

Ferrari 310B 1997

michael-schumacher-ferrari-1997.jpg

This is pretty much the last I would label as "sexy" F1 car, just before the groove tyres ruined everything, despite being similar to the F300 and the F399 this one has that special "retro vibe" you don't have with the next ones anymore. It's just perfect.

Williams FW16 1994
_45721633_williams766.jpg

We all know this car for a reason...
But I have to admit she's a looker, the livery kills the FW15/B and I mostly remember this car for this:
f094s-l.jpg

Now I have to vote AT LEAST another Ferrari...exluding the Ferrari 412 T2, and the F310 (any nose variant, still a pretty ugly car)...The 641/2 is the all-time-classic plus I can't decide between the F92/A, F93/a and the 412 T1...meh

Ferrari 643: Doesn't get much better than this from Ferrari. Quite possibly their best looking car ever.
upload_2016-6-15_17-19-54.png

Jordan 191: Quite simply the best looking car of the 90s. That iconic shape is just beautiful.
upload_2016-6-15_17-21-1.png

McLaren MP4/6: The best McHonda Marlboro when it comes down to aesthetics
upload_2016-6-15_17-21-42.png

Williams FW17: The definitive car of the 1990s.

Do I need to include unsourced images to submit a legitimate nomination?

Otherwise, Ferrari 643, Ligier JS 37, and Arrows A19.

Pictures are helpful but not a necessity. Just saying which cars should be enough for me to know your selection. You still have one more nomination if you wish. :)

@Liquid Is it alright that I can withdraw a nomination to replace with another?

You can edit your post with your nominations right up until Sunday evening when the thread closes.

I don't get the love for the FW17-18-19... Sure, the livery is good, and sure, it was successful, but its nose is only just slightly less ugly than the MP4-10's.

Tyrell 023 the last Tyrell to have decent Sponsorship, proved to be a solid car at the end of the season in the hands of Mika Salo.

1991 Tyrrell 020: Sleek looks with a pretty sharp-looking livery.

1991 Lambo 291: Lamborghini power with some rather unique as hell, "melted" looking styling

1991 McLaren MP4/6: Iconic car, iconic livery.

1998 Prost AP01: I'm a sucker for anything out of the ordinary, especially this "X-Wing" concept.
