Non-Japanese Drift Cars?

Now that Drifting has come to America in full force, do you guys think people will start drifting American and European cars? What cars (non-Japanese) do you think show real potential in becoming great Drifters?

I was at this years D1GP tryouts in Irwindale and there was one Mustang representing and one Crown Victoria (with an SVT mustang engine/tranny) Everyone cheered when the Crown Vic drifted but it had some crazy wheel hop in the rear.

I would LOVE to see an older Porsche 944 drifting. Old school bimmers (especially the M6) would be freaking HOT to drift in.

I would also like to see a Buick Grand National drifting. MUAHAAH!!!


So what cars do you guys think show potential of becoming drift cars?
 
Well, let's see here. I drift my 5-series beemer first of all, so that's non-Japanese. But, so far I have seen a newer Camaro and Corvette drift, as well as some random 5.0 Mustangs and a couple of lowriding chevy pickups, but to me, they're not as well built as the Japanese cars, cause they are way overweight. I have also seen a bunch of classic 911's and 914's drift.
 
I wouldn't mind taking my 85 IROC Z28 for a loop around the D1, but that would be insane, to say the least. But it would be cool. I don't know I can seriously picture the Z06 and the Sebring being some really cool drift cars. The 35th anniversary Camaro would loock good as well. Man, so many cars to mention, so little space to write.
 
Since drifting was born in Japan, and I love Japanese cars, I would use one. But, I would like to see some 3-series bimmers pull a drift or two. I would laso like to see someone drift in an SUV, and a Tundra.

i remember reading something bout keiichi being inspired by some guy who drifted his old skyline to 1st place (not GT-R) I'm thinkin that must be pretty old, considering Tsuchiya-san's age, but then again, i think (correct me if i'm wrong) that the OLD formula 1 racing techniques involved drifting on those REALLY thin tires lol

That's not drifting, that's oval dirt track racing. There is a huge difference, for one, the track is made of slick dirt versus a concrete or blacktop road surface.
 
^drift (as in, sliding the car through the turns) has been a racing technique since people started racing cars. the japanese coined the term as a sport, and a defined style of driving.
 
This may be kinda unfair to tell, but I had the rare opportunity to drift a USMC HumVee, that was fun as hell. Of course, it was on semi-dry grounds but you get the point. Sideways at sixty clicks (kmph) doing nothing but screaming with the Marine next to you. Ahhhh, that's the good life. Anyway, I just thought that might count as a non-Japanese drifter car:lol:
 
I think it would be need to see some of these new saab turbos drift. There suspension already seens stiff. One of my friends has a brand new 93 saab, it just looks like it wants to drift
 
I was really surprised to hear specs of military Humvee's. They only have 100 something hp and do like 105mph. I would've though for a militray vehicle you'd want more power.

Well for starters they have suspension that is mostly comprised up pneumatic struts that just support the Hummvee's massive weight.
***Note: If you're in the military and you are reading this, I know that there are like 500 different humvee's I'm just going with my favorite, the hardback***
Then, under that it has some super-easy to compress springs that allow the massive 40 in tires to just eat through dirt and mountains. The wheel lock is one of the main factors on why they drift, it stops at about 80 degrees (sorry I don't have a protractor on me) which, last time I checked, is damn close to 90 degrees. Now we skip the ABS (sometimes) brakes and move on to the engine. V-8, diesel, 165 hp, 380 ft.lbs of torque. Yep, all that damn low-end power. That's why it scales 70 degree inclines with no problem. That's also why when you lock the wheels out and punch it, she wants to go round and round and round.
Next we've got the drive train, it's really simple, in it's simplest form. The gear box is auto on all models and it's 4 speed with high and low gear selection for traffic, normal driving and off road conditions. One of the reasons that I like the hard back is that it allows for 2wd (rear wheel) selection which needless to say makes drifiting slightly easier. I say slightly because drifting with 160 hp and 380 ft.lbs of tourqe is never easy. But the 4wd system also has a default for combat emergency conditions in which if you turn the wheels to their locking point the VCD automatically transfers all power to the rear-wheels so that if you ever have to retreat (WHICH MARINES NEVER DO OO-RAH!) you can get the hell out with no problem by just cutting a 180 real fast. What's fun to do is if you're driving a hardback humvee (a hard back is a humvee that has a fast-back design) and the person who's in the same convoy is driving a square back (a humvee with a tarp enclosed area for carrying troops) you can piss them off by swithich to 2wd mode and neutral drop your tranny and burn the rear tires ever so slightly:cool:

But that plesure is saved for those with hardback licenses.

I WAS gonna go Security Forces in the Air Force. Before that I wanted to do Infantry in the Marine Corps, but I had to think about a future and being a grunt won't help you much in the civilian world, so I decided the next best thing would be an MP, and I chose the Air Force for the lifestyle. Nicer barracks and stuff.
 
You will burn in the firey puts of the darkest reaches in the blackest recesses of hell for that blasphemous comment...The Vantage is the #1 non japanese drift car in all of GT3....don't question it for it is a fact....
It pimps the Viper on the track, and pimps all other german, american, UK, all those countries best FR cars in drifting....don't question it at all...don't ...don't.

Vantage= also has the most realistic body movements of ANY of the cars in the game....especially in the replays.
