So what if it's a few days before Thanksgiving. Get over it. :D

Any suggestions? Is there even such music around? I know the Trans-Siberian Orchestra has a few songs (Carol of the Bells to name one), but that's all I can think of. Anyone have any suggestions?

One of my favorites Christmas songs ever is "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues, it's a great Christmas song, but definitely not one you'd hear at church.

There is a CD out there called A Season in Chaos- A Brutal Christmas which is basically death metal covers of christmas songs. It's quite horrible, if you ask me.

Gary Hoey.

Some of the best Rock Christmas tunes you'll enjoy. Sadly, no lyrics

It depends on if you are looking for serious stuff or not.

I know that Bob Rivers Twisted Christmas has a couple of songs, one is Jingle Hell's Bells - a hybrid of My Favorite Things and ACDC's Hell's Bells.

Another is I Am Santa Claus, it is Black Sabbath's Iron Man, except it is Santa Claus.

I am sure you can also find a few sell out rock/pop bands that did albums for the cash.

I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra for Christmas time, if you "buy" any of their CD's I recommend "The Lost Christmas Eve" and "Christmas Eve and Other Stories", all the songs on the CD are great to listen to.

The mentioned Pogues track was a household favorite when I was growing up.

Eels - Everything's Gonna be Cool this Christmas
Weezer - The Christmas Song
The Go! Team - The Ice Storm

There is also this song called Merry Christmas for Godzilla that we found on some radio talk show in the early 90s. It is absolutely hilarious. I have no idea where it came from, but it is a definite classic from my childhood 👍

Here's a really old one:

Osama got ran over by a reindeer.
Steppin' out his cave on Christmas Eve.
He said there's no such thing as Santa.
But now even the tali ban believe.

I haven't heard it for 2 years so that's the best I got.

Ooooh gawd no. First time I heard it I thought "haha that's funny". I really liked it too. Since then I've realised that it seems to be the UK's national Xmas song, and as such I am doomed to hear it at least once every day in December for the rest of my life or until I leave the UK. That song has been so overplayed here it's not funny. Anymore.

My favourite Xmas song would have been Frankie Goes To Hollywood's The Power Of Love, but I never realised it was an Xmas song

Can't think of any other rock examples except Ozzy and Kelly's Changes, which wasn't particularly christmasy anyway.

That's weird, it's barely ever played here, which is probably the reason I like it more.

It's not a Rock style Christmas album, but it is a Christmas album played by Dream Theater's keyboard player, Jordan Rudess:

One of the few albums I have that my girlfriend likes to listen to.

Oh yeah. If they played it once or twice a year here I'd probably still like it too. It's a really original Christmas song that completely appeals to my cynical sense of humour. Unfortunately I think the rest of Britain finds it funny too and feels compelled to play it once every ten seconds somewhere in the country. The Pogues and that lady they partnered with to perform it must love Christmas by now. Or at least their record company do.

You mean Kirsty MacColl? Unfortunately she was killed in an accident in 2000... :indiff:

As for Christmas rock, a bit of a prog rock tinge is in order... Greg Lake's "I Believe in Father Christmas" is the pick of the bunch!

I've edited the thread title to make it more accesible for other people who may not want rock Christmas songs, but other styles as well.

God! I almost for got. I need to break out Grandma Got Run over By a Reindeer and South Park's Merry

Christmas.

Wikipedia has a popular Christmas songs page. It contains all kinds of songs including ones that weren't intended to be Christmas songs per se'. Oddly enough the song "Mad World", the one played in Donny Darko, is listed as a unintentional Christmas song. If that's not bizarre than I don't know what is.
