It's years since I've been to an amusement arcade and put a few coins into one of those machines with a wheel and seat. I expect they've advanced somewhat since then. Sorry, reminiscing and wandering off topic. :)
The Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune series is really great. I got to play the first three a lot without going broke because I used to work at an arcade. :D

Always handy.

Just watched a clip of WMMT and yes that is what I remember of arcade. :)
We didn't have asynchronous multiplayer, in-store online connectivity, or memory cards (flexible and magnetic) back in the 1990s, though. :)

Why games do not have more of a set up coach baffles me. I get that we have limited power this gen but even if it was someone explaining things walking you through it a little. I would expect or hope more from this next gen. It would be great is there was some analysis of a lap but, I am not wanting to move mountains, explanations and maybe some structured suggestions. Some of these games want to simulations well in the real life learning the ins and out of set up be it wheel or car settings is an important part of getting better.

I've taken to this wheel quite nicely I think. I actually won an online race at Monza GT3 last night. A few drivers left the lobby during the race but seeing as I was in the lead at the time meant I wasn't gifted the win.
In a custom game I beat my gamepad time with the Ford GT LM GTE by 3 seconds. ( Now that was the same setup but hard slicks Vs soft slicks, would that be the difference? )
In a tryout at Hockenheim Classic GP in a Caterham SP300 I found I could catch and hold oversteer mostly. So circuit racing is much improved
However if I then drop into Rallycross. Oh dear. I'm all over the place. Need to look at that now.

Loving it!
Are you kidding me? You've just gotten a wheel and you are already winning online and besting your controller times by three seconds?

Just what we needed around here, another alien to make us mortals feel even worse about our paltry lap times. Lol

Really, though, it has taken many a 'new wheel user' numerous months (if not longer) to be faster on the wheel than the controller they were used to.

Great job

Encourage all that can to use a wheel on more sim based racing games. After all I believe that is what real cars are driven with. I think a lot of people are imbedded after years n years after using control use only to be highly reluctant to even consider switching.

I do admit that if do not have much space that it can be a burden to use and or move when not using. I do not have a full sim set up yet - meaning wheel/seat stand and not sure when I would. So I have my wheel mounted to a make shift stand (from a small wooden book shelf). Then bought a game/office chair a few months back when started working from home. Much better then folding chair that was using.

Point being simple wheel T-150 and some device that you probably all ready have for a stand will work just fine.

One you get used to a wheel, the feed back etc provided to the wheel is far more immersive even if in the beginning or even first few months you do not seem to be much faster.
You can really tell when the car is fighting for grip and or loose all grip. Allowing for much more precise driving.

Lol, I'm far from an alien but cheers.
I'm really happy that I can beat my controller times after such a short time using it.

Not gonna sit here and slag controller off. Far from it. In fact even though I've been concentrating on PCars 2 and I'm better on Assetto Corsa, I'm absolutely terrible at Forza 7 I think something wrong with its ffb, or maybe just me lol.
Dirt 2.0 is gonna take some time cos it's such a different discipline.

And the rabbit hole has widened.:D Just ordered this.

Not my room obviously!

That looks good as long as pretty stable and guessing would not slide around on carpet.

Whats the rough cost and whom is the manufacture.

Is there room for shifter or add on attachment for shifter.

It's by Xrocker. It's the XR racing stand. Pre drilled holes for hard mounting wheel, pedals and there's a side mount for a shifter, or should be.

UK price on Xrocker site is £100. I got it from Argos £70.

You can see the shifter attachment on the left hand side of the stand.

Most wheel stands don't place the shifter in a realistic place - I use a Wheelstand Pro which is probably the most adjustable of the stands (and probably the best quality) but the shifter attachment is too close to the wheel - I built a separate centre console, upholstered in leather to match my sofa which positions the shifter knob in the same place as a normal car - I'll try and find the picture.

The shifter attachments on stands are obviously better than nothing, but normally put it in the same place as modern vans (i.e. dash mounted). There is a whole thread on stands in the sim racing equipment section of GTPlanet.

Yes fully aware that there are hundreds of different sim racing cockpit options to choose from and that the sky is the limit. Thought about making a basic one from time to time.
Might just go for a basic portable stand as recently shown - in no hurry though.

Would love to have an almost full enclosed game cabnite - that would be icing on the cake. With VR however if I ever go that route not sure if would want a complex sim seat arrangement.

I had some set up issues during some forza 7 patches. They were eventually fixed with update to my wheel and game.

I should have been playing my wheel through all of this, but I got into nioh 2. I need to take the next step and just add the monitor to my rig. I have a 2 year old so pulling out the rig and get set up does not happen as often as I would like. He likes playing with the wheel so I am going to have to have him to try it on a game soon, with ffb off of course. He steered my car into the garage and loved that.

Joined a league championship. Done some races and I'm pretty pleased with my progress after such a short time with the wheel.

Few spins etc, stupid one yesterday. I closed my radiator for qualifying and had low fuel. Sat in the pre race lobby. I remembered to add fuel for the 25 minute race at Daytona Road circuit.
About a third of the way into the race while running in 2nd place, I noticed my engine damage creeping up. Then it dawned on me that I'd forgotten to open my radiator back up. I was overheating. No problem I thought I'll just slow down a bit as I was 30 secs in front of 3rd. Next problem.....my fuel was not gonna last, probably using more with a hot engine? Set the pitstop for fuel only. Pitted, then experienced a pit error!! Oh well.
These are the challenges.
Great game

Cheers guys. I'm happy with it. The wheel part is adjustable for height and I've clamped and hard mounted it. Pre drilled with holes for various wheels as is the pedal base. Hard mounted as well.
It's pretty sturdy too. Just getting the height of the wheel right.
Works well with the Xrocker seat.

The shifter base can be mounted either side. At the moment I've got it mounted upside down to make a tray to hold my remote or controller.

Make a big hole in the centre and you've got yourself a drink holder. :)

Did my first proper league race, last one was a short practice.
We're split into two groups of 12. Faster 12 (pro) and not as fast (semi pro)
I'm in the semi pro.
We raced at Daytona Road circuit. With real time weather. 15 mins qualifying - thunderstorm - 2nd place
45 mins race - heavy clouds dry with pitstop. - came 1st.

Well pleased with that.
Next week is Long Beach.

Nice! What league are you in, if i may ask? I am still looking for a league, but not sure if i can make it at the given dates/times :(
