Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster, anyway, Pleasantries aside, heres my question..

I've been drifting in gt5 for about 2 weeks now and I'm getting the hang of it more and more and have no problems initiating or maintaining drifts but my problem is that my drifts consist of a mixture of tapping the accelerator to keep the car sideways and tapping my control stick in the counter steer direction. Now in practice mode I'm getting 10000+ scores on Tsukuba, Tokyo r260 and so on but my worry is that because I am only tapping the steering and not at a constant counter steer lock ... Am I actually drifting? Or am I just doing big fancy powerslides? And if so, what can I do to help keep my steering straight without turning the car around?

I'm playing with a controller too not a wheel.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers

I'd say that you are doing it right because pretty much everyone I know that drifts with a controller does the tapping thing, but as you get better you will notice it less. I have heard of people that have a different technique that makes it look like they use a wheel but it takes getting use to, and with tapping the accelerator you have to do that for better throttle control because you don't have a pedal, that is only if you don't use the triggers

Just try to be smooth with the inputs. Instead of tapping the stick try to use it to adjust the steering slowly. As for the throttle it's all feel. Be careful on how much pressure you apply and you'll have much smoother drifts. Sometimes I can make people think I have a wheel if I try hard to keep it really smooth.

your doing it right man.

Yeah with A controller you can't actually hold full lock while counter steering. You need to straighten the wheels up because you will just end up spinning out. It sounds like your doing it right!. If you left the car to slide without doing any counter steering then you would end up spinning out swell so just keep doing it the way you are.
