Notchy Force Feedback with Fanatec 911 Turbo S Wheel?

Anyone else getting very notchy FF with the Turbo S when the wheel is close or at the centre? It makes the cars very difficult to drive smoothly, and correcting oversteer is near impossible. I have the FF at the lowest settings (33 on the wheel, and at 1 in the game settings), but I haven't been able to dial it out. In fact the only way to fix the issue is to remove FF completely.

I use the Fanatec RS wheel, seems really smooth and improved over Prologue, and its not Notchy at all.

My settings under wheel feedback is, 10 for FFB, and Simulation

NoxNoctis Umbra>> 10 in-game, or 10 on the wheel? Having 10 on the wheel isn't possible with the Turbo S, not sure if it is different for the GT3 RS.

BLACK86>> I am using 540 Degrees of rotation, and power steering is off.

Im using both 100 on the wheel, and 100 in the game, Simulation setting and no power steering.. Try to use 900 degree option because I remember I had troubles with 540 or less in Prologue with Fanatec.

Also tip for the others that wanna configure their wheels, go under old DFP wheel to switch all the buttons if anyone wants.

Also when my H shifter is plugged in I can now use Paddle shifters, in Prologue in order to use them I would have to unplug the shifter, seems it works now, maybe Fanatec wheels will be supported in full GT5.

900 Degrees helps, but it doesn't completely eliminate the issue. The tuned car drives much better, but the road car is very twitchy, I only have to turn to wheel slightly in either direction and the car becames very unstable.

If I let go of the steering wheel when driving in a straight line, it wobbles from side to side.

mono_t>> Yep, thats exactly the same problem, seems it is a known issue. Looks like we are using the same settings too. 33% FF on the wheel, 3 for FF in-game. If you haven't already done so, turn the sensitivity off so it uses the full 900 degrees of rotation. That helps a little, though it doesn't fix the jerking if you let go of the wheel. Thanks to NoxNoctis Umbra for that suggestion.

TopChancer: I just read the tip in my other thread (Thx Taurim). I must have set it to 540 by accident or something... Well, you might be right that it doesn't completely solves the problem, but it is much more driveable now. I haven't done more than one and a half lap since changing it back, but I don't think there was any jerking.. Will test it now :)

There is 210, 360, 540 and OFF for the sensitivity options. I am just assuming OFF is 900 degrees. Whether or not it is actually 900 degrees is another question.

Yeah, don't if OFF equals 900, but thats my guess too. Why they don't just call it 900 then is beyond me, but there's got to be a reason :)

Have tried a few more laps, and so far it seems to work perfectly. There is a very small bobbing motion left and right around the center sometimes, but it's so weak that it isn't a problem. Only thing is that I need to adjust to 'new' level of sensivity, but so far I think it'll be easier to feel the slides and correct. I had some trouble with saving them before...

well off is still 540, i checked this by going into chase cam then selecting rear view and while holding rear view turned the wheel, you can see the wheels turning and they stop around the 270 mark which equates to 540.

ive only just got the wheel and to me i think this is a kind of cheat/massive advantage over others, i know dfgt can do 180 but thats way to quick. guys whats your opinions on having 540, its really eating away at me.

Yeah, me too. I have to turn the wheel a lot more than with 540, and as I said, it's maybe a bit easier to feel when the car starts to lose grip and correct it.

The force feedback still has the side to side pulling on straights problem that Prologue had. :-(
The g25 worked much, much better with GT5p, but I sold it to a friend because thomas said that this wouldn't be a problem with the full version of the game. So far the turbo s wheel has ruined my 2 favorite games, GT5p and shift. Both are unplayable with any FF turned on. Hopefully this problem is fixed.

If it still has the jerking problem just like GT5p, I'll be asking for a refund. But I believe Jason has a G27 which also suffers from the same problem in prologue. So I think PD has to do better with the wheel support really.

Bevo, in my case setting the sensitivity on the wheel to 900 (or OFF as it says on the display) pretty much solved the problem. As I wrote somewhere there is a very subtle bobbing left and right sometimes, but it is not a problem since it doesn't influence the car, and sometimes it's even difficult to provoke.

As for NFS Shift, I haven't noticed anything wrong. What is the problem in NSF Shift?

EDIT: I think Addy is right. It is a PD problem. The sensitivity settings on the Fanatec wheel seems to exagarate (suddenly I can't spell that word?) this phenomonon. If my memory serves me right, GT4 had the same problem but nowhere near the amount that gt5p/ad has...

The jerking going down the straights is my problem in shift. I've had 2 of the turbo s wheels and both of them have done the same thing. I had a G25 and it worked fine with both GT5p and shift. Neither game did the side to side jerking on the G25 that they do with the turbo s wheel. Those are the only 2 games I have had this problem with though.
I'm just a little aggravated and jumped the gun on sending it back. I was just hoping that it would work perfect right from the start with the GT5 demo. I really thought that PD would have better FF but it looks like they really don't cater to wheel users like you think they would. Hopefully they will fix the problems before the big release.

Yup I have a G27. It really doesn't feel very good with this wheel IMO. the very strong constant pulling side to side is really annoying. back when I first got my old Fanatec wheel I just thought this was normal, but now after playing other racing games it doesn't seem right for GT to do this. Dirt 2, and SCC don't do this.

My old Fanatec Turbo (non S model) did the same thing with Prolouge and it was BAD. It would jerk side to side very violently. I never noticed it with Shift though.

my current wheel, the G27, also does this with GT5p and the GT5 TT Demo. It does not do this with Shift, Dirt 2 or SCC. In Shift there is a very strange feeling though on the G27. In Shift with the G27 I can constantly feel the wheel lightly oscillating and it feels terrible.

I also am very surprised the force feedback is still the way it is in this Demo. There is still no detail in the FFB at all. It's almost like there is a ton of centering force and that's it. Anybody that has played SCC or FC with a wheel knows how detailed FFB can feel. I am not saying I want the Physics to be the same as SCC, but if the FFB was more detailed like SCC, that would be great. I really had high hopes for this demo and for GT5, but I am really feeling kind of disappointed.

Bevo: Are you sure your on-wheel sensitivity is set to 900 (off)?

GT is the only game I have had these problems with... That said, I can't help but feel a little dissapointed with the Fanatec. Considering the price tag, I would've expected something better. It's not bad, but there's a lot of small annoyances that really should have been taken care of...

Yea, I've got the sensitivity to off, and I turned the shock down to 33. I'm starting to get use to it more now, but you shouldn't have to turn the FF, and vibration down to fix the problem. I've seen now though that this isn't fanatec's fault, it's PD's poor FF. I can't believe they don't put more effort into making the wheel users have a better feel with GT. I absolutely love the demo. Everything about it is great except for the FF, which is a very important part of sim racing. I hope they really put some effort into fixing this before the game releases.

Bevo: How much FF in the game and on the wheel? I'm currently on 5 in game and 66% on the wheel, and it works if not perfectly then reasonably good, even in gt5p :)

I agree that the FF in gt5p/demo isn't something to brag about...

I've got it at 5 and 66 same as you but I have my vibration at 33. I just really expected better FF from GT5. If ferrari challenge can get it as good as they did, I can't believe that GT5 is going to make you turn you FF down to about 1/3 of the full strength to keep the wheel from randomly jerking going down the straights. I imagine though that GT5 will see many many updates throughout the life of the game. I imagine it will be the only GT game for the ps3 so I hope by the end of it's life they will have some of the best FF around. As hard as the demo is you can tell that they are not catering to the arcade style racers out there, and are trying to make the best console sim out there.

If the FF was right, then I would have absolutely nothing at all to complain about. I really like where GT5 is headed I just can't believe the wheel support is so poor on a game that sells steering wheels. I bet that at least 80% of console steering wheel owners buy them just for GT games. You would really think that they would put more emphasis on FF in game.

This side to side jerking only happens in the GT5 Time Trial, in GT5P it won't happen. I have a DFGT, this side to side jerking is very small and i can control it, it's not so annoying like in Grid or NFS Shift.

Strange that the game behaves differently even with the same wheel. I've been driving gt5p for some hours now, and have no problems with the FF. Still trying to adapt to the demo :)
