My thanks to all those who took the time to respond to my first post. Your collective kindness, does this grey haired old racer's heart good. The info contained has been most helpful, especially in vanquishing Rabid Lee Froth and company. I see what you mean by driver reliability issues in B spec, I could do better with a wheel chair powered by a Briggs and Straton.
I will be working on this element of the game. The download for the manual was of great value! I don't feel quite as incontinent, er incompetent as I have.
I am toying with different vehicles in an attempt to break 300 mph on the test track, any suggestions? I am between 25 and 27 mph shy of my goal. And Sir Jordan is correct, I am probably the oldest member here, but also one of the most enthusiastic.
Once again kind people, my gratitude,
Sincerely
Fangio

Easy way I know to break 300 is to take the Toyota GT-ONE, max it out with everything.

Set the ride height to....

highest in the front, lowest in the back.

Put the Tranny auto-set to 25, stretch the final drive out a bit.

Put max down force to the rear and minimum downforce on the front.

And max out the NOS also.

You should be able to get 300 like that. There are other members here who can add to or correct and fine tune what I've said but that should get you started.👍

LOON's theory is good, but the Toyota GT-One isn't the easiest car to get over 300mph - I'd recommend the Toyota 88C-V for an easy job, but there are a lot of more interesting ones ;)

If you fancy making it a more regular thing, this 300mph-tuning lark, why not pay a visit to us over here 👍

I managed it in a Toyota 88 thingy by setting it up to pull wheelies. If I recall, I have the front suspension at max ride height and stiffness, the rear at lowest ride height and very soft, rear downforce on max, front downforce on min, a big turbo, and NOS. Gearing, of course, set to allow the high speed. This setup has an unfortunate side effect in the handling department, which, to paraphrase an ancient text from P.J. O' Rourke, cannot really be called understeer or oversteer, but is actually no steering at all because the front wheels aren't touching the ground.

When standing still the car looks like it's taking off already. It manages over 300mph like this on the straights at Test Curse, and then has a 300mph crash when it reaches a corner :D

There are probably easier, safer, and more realistic ways of reaching 300mph.

Good Citizens of GTP Planet,
Your rapid responses to my query's have resulted in some entertaining 301 mph runs, and subsequent crashes! Reminded me of my own carreer(at much saner speeds). As to questions on my age, I have spent well over half a century on this little sphere known as earth. But I have the enthusiasm of someone half my age!
I am impressed by the wide range personality's and interests represented here. Sir Jordan's original site was much smaller, but occupied by an assortment of oddballs and miscreants.
This game continues to impress. The realism is uncanny! Laguna Seca is a track I have raced on, and i make the same mistakes in the game as I did on the track.
Many years ago while driving, what i thought, was a meticulously built Datsun 510, I tried to overtake a BMW at the top of the corkscrew. Unfortunately, my late braking, was too late and too hard! I learned at that moment in my carreer that locked wheels do not turn, they slide, and, when you release the brakes, if said wheels are still turned, you spin spectacularly!
I did impress a large group of spectators however, who in their gratitude, righted my car and gave me a mighty shove, down the hill where I limped into the pits, my weekend done. I still kiss the wall, because I refuse to brake before the crest! Old habits die hard!(So do old fools for that matter)
As always, great fun to visit here. I look forward to many more hours here. Until next time,
I Remain

Well if you've spent "Well Over" half a century here, then what do all the numbers mean, because if they are your birth date then you'd be like 51, which isn't what I would consider well over ha;f a century.

One more question, whats with the "Sir Jordans" and "Good Citizens of GTP".

Just asking.

EDIT:You should get an avatar too.

yes, avatars are cool! and they represent your personality/likes/dislikes/sense of humor, like your face you know :D
Have fun, and I'm sorry about your 510, my mom is looking for a Nissan hardbody for me.

One more question, whats with the "Sir Jordans"
He's just giving Jordan his full title. Sir Jordan of GTP was given an honorory knighthood by the Queen at Buckingham Palace nearly 2 years ago. Sir Jordan just doesn't like to talk about it.

Maybe his b-day is December 15th, 1956? 💡

Also, I love the way you post its hilarious. Off I go!

I shall continue to read your threads, Fangio, and post no more - I love your very apparent enthusiasm for the game and for racing :) I hope you, for one, never change! 👍 👍

Don't let these guys get you down, some of us are a little off in the head. :boggled: :dopey:

By the way, there is an option in your Profile Editing screen (Control Panel -> Edit Profile) to remove the GTPremium badge from your posts (Display Premium Icon?) - the features all remain, but the badge is hidden if you'd like it to be. :)

Greetings fellow Space Travelers!
The mystery of my age shall remain a mystery mo more. in spite of what you think, the numbers after my name are not my birthdate, they were the first set of numbers after "Fangio" that were acceptable to the powers that be when first registering. I am 62 years of age. Refering to my boon companion, Jordan, as Sir Jordan is a sign of respect and friendship that carries over from his first site. For those who find me annoying, my appologies.
For those who are willing to answer my occasional question, and put up with my ramblings, my gratitude. I am passionate about all things automotive, that is why this game is so fascinating to me. Just watching the replays is an incredible experience. My days on the track are all but done, so to be able to have this vicarious experience and share it with like minded individuals is great fun!
So pardon the eccentricities, and long windedness. I'm relatively harmless( as long as the medication works).
I would very much like to have an avatar, if soneone would be kind enough to instruct me, I would be very grateful. Now, a challenge for your consideration: What is the fastest lap you can run in reverse on the test loop? Great fun driving with your mirrors. Let me know your results.
AS Always

I don't find you to be annoying at all, its just that you are very unique the way you word your sentences, makes them a joy to read really, I was just curious.

Also your having a hard time finding or getting your avatar the right size, you can go HERE and jst post saying what kind of avatar you want and the kind people over there will happily make one for you.

Kind Serge,
Your instructions, with any luck, will have me posting my avatar in good meassure. Any fan of the Ramones, is surely a gentleman and a scholar!
And to you Loon. Grateful to know I have not offended your sensiblilties. I have found that life is too short to step on many toes, and I look forward to many correspondences. I've also found, that the older I get, the faster I was!
So carry on! Ye merry bunch of motorheads, miscreants, and n'er do wells! There is mischieve afoot! And it is I!
Your Humble Scribe

I like the cool lingo, its nice and fun. i am more glad that you are having fun, when many elderly people become forgotten :(
Luckily for you, your not most/many! :D have fun here, and play, play, play, play Sir Robin i mean Fangio.

Ah, I'm too warm-hearted to not reply to your fantastic posts, Fangio! :)

If you'd like to see who can drive the fastest backwards around the Test Course, I think you need to talk to MasterStorm - he has done it in a Chaparral 2D, albeit only as far as the Max. Speed Test allows - which does not include the last corner. But it is rather spectacular to see it go around the first corner in excess of 200mph!

Here's his post from the 300mph Club thread, with links to the video. Enjoy! 👍
Anyway, I don't have access to the vdeo capture card whilst I'm staying with the parents over Christmas, but before I left I managed to get a video of my Chaparral 2D doing over 210mph, just as I have recently claimed.

Chaparral 2D @ 212.19mph [video] [YouTube]

Not the best recording (it's a little jittery in places), but it's clear enough. If your wondering why my control is so bad, well, have you ever tried driving car with rear wheel steering at over 200mph!

DE

Incredible! Astounding! Mind Boggling!
I have just viewed The Master's reverse feat! I'm speechless! I had the distinct pleasure of witnessing Mr. Chaparral's automotive genius, in the heyday of the Can Am series(arguably the finest race series in history) and never did I realize that all that genius was wasted! All he had to do was learn to drive in reverse! Would have scared the bejeezus out of Mr's Donohue, Hulme, McLaren and the rest, but what a spectacle that would have been! I am in awe of ,nay I am humbled by this fantastic display of driving prowess!
I shall now quietly skulk back to my pit, and hide in the garage. My helmet is off to you, oh fleet of foot!
Suitably Humbled

Fangio, my eyes humbly astounded on thou letterings that thou art 62 years of age. Forth i ask thee, why thee numbering in thou username?
I shall humbly wait upon thou answering,

Rayquaza.

Fangio, my eyes humbly astounded on thou letterings that thou art 62 years of age. Forth i ask thee, why thee numbering in thou username?
I shall humbly wait upon thou answering,

Rayquaza.

For Fangio hast already answered thy question, for the name fangio has already been taken, so he added extra #'s so he could acquire the desired name.

Fangio, May be you could change you name to, The Fangio, or something like The Original Fangio, so you can get rid of all the numbers.

Yon LOON, appointing thy answering is not correct. I was of meaning, why input the incorrect year of datum?
I shall, once again, wait for thy answerings.

Gentle Rayquaza,
I shall endeavor to dspatch the mystery of my numerical monicker to your satisfaction, I should not want to be responsible for the furrowing of one's brow.
When I first became a citizen of Sir Jordan's original community, Fangio was the name I used, no numerical tag was required for I was the one and only.
Upon my return, I found to my dismay that Fangio, had been taken, along with several alpha numeric combinations. After several attempts with various combinations, the computer suggested 3 combinations that had not been taken. So I chose one, and added the 956 (my street address) in order to assist in my being able to recall, should I forget!
I hope this put's to rest your gentle musings, and my appologies for any confusion or distress
Yours helpfully
Fangio
