Dave,

Nice improvement. Well done. Looks like I'm going to need a quicker time out of my next session.

I don't like driving with aids either but as you've seen it makes a significant difference in how quickly you can get around the track. Although I guess it's a little unrealistic in that these cars probably didn't have TCS/ASM systems. As I noted somewhere on gtp before the only car I'm aware of that has an "ASM" system is the MINI Cooper S (I believe they call it DSC - Dynamic Stability Control - but I think it does the same thing GT4's ASM does...in theory anyway). There must be others too? I'm not aware that the MINI's DSC is adjustable the way GT4 is.

The hardcore side of me says outlaw TCS/ASM unless the real car has those systems. The part of me that wants to get around the track the quickest wants to use them. Up until these last 3 weeks I haven't needed them...actually I'd have been slower with them turned on in previous weeks. I guess above 550HP my already mediocre abilities fade even more so.

As NRS administrator it's your call on whether or not we're allowed to use them.

Hi Ronny,

The Mini Cooper S does indeed have DSC but its not alone, more and more manufacturers are kitting their cars out with similar systems now, BMW, Mercedes to name just a couple have systems that help the driver out, I think even the Ferrrari F430 has a system of some description that the driver can turn off.

The GT4 system however I feel is much different. ASM seems to "Hang" the revs up when you come off throttle, so when you get back on it the engine hasnt bogged down and is more responsive at all times, coupled with braking individual wheels and the TCS system you can virtually set the system to keep you on the road at all times....With the way we have the "7" set up this week you can just throw it into corners and mash the throttle without worrying, crude but effective i must admit!

For me, using the aids on cars of this power level makes the game seem like some arcade racer, in reality these cars would be a nightmare on the ring.

It does seem a shame to have to use the aids after so many weeks of not using them, but im not going to outlaw them, they are a part of the game and there to be used, and if im going to keep up with you this week i need to use them too!!

cheers

David

Interesting. I didn't realize the ASM kept the revs up like you describe. I honestly don't think I can do too much better than my currently posted T10 (w/ TCS/ASM) so maybe I'll turn off the aids and spend the rest of the week trying to master this puppy the old fashioned way, guess I'll go ahead and use MT too.

I expect it will be quite frustrating as I've learned a couple of crucial "lift" points that will probably now require light braking or delicate gas pedal modulation. Finesse driving.

I hope the DFP is up to it. I've noticed how intensely I grip the wheel. Almost like I'm actually trying to "hold" the car in the corners.

Well I know my best T10 without aids is nowhere near to that of the one when using them, so i think we should just use them this week, the Jag is a different animal with much more downforce working, I only needed a click of TCS to get moving with that car.....

I just wrapped up my NO TCS, NO ASM, MT session with the 7. It wasn't as bad as I expected. After a few crash & burn sequences I was able to settle in to a bit of a rhythm and began enjoying the car. Wheel spin is quite an issue with this car, I kept upshift/downshifting in an effort to neutralize / control it. I definitely prefer driving this way...I feel like I've accomplished something by driving this car in a more realistic sense. My time was nowhere near as fast as with TCS/ASM but I knew that would be the case.

T10 = 5'07.005, 394.5 total miles >> so 81.1 miles this configuration.

I may use TCS=1 and ASMs=2 and see if I can find a little more time.

So Dave are you saying that next week with the Jag we should not use the driving aids?

EDIT:
Put in some more time this morning. Tried aids @ 1/2/2 then 1/3/3. No complete laps but I was ahead of my ghost on occassion. Ran out of time. I'll probably try 1/3/3 some more tonight before giving up and going back to 2/4/4.

That makes us about level when using no aids then Ronny:)

Regarding the Jag no not at all, use the aids if you want, Im trying to just run the Jag with some TCS maybe, see where i finish!

Gave up. TCS/ASMs = 2/4/4. Although I did stay with MT.

T10 = 4'53.963 (-1.275) 👍 , 562 miles
Final = -1.520 👍 👍

Done. I'm submitting my time and I'm gonna work on the Jag.

after 400 miles of wasted energy i've come to the conclusion that i hate this car. (and i find the idea of putting electronic aids on a car from 1970 to be completely rediculous)
and unfortunately, i already know i hate next weeks jag... so i may just say so long and thanks for the good races to this series.
sorry.
