Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this issue that I am having. During night races my speakers sometimes, not always, start crackling as if a wire is loose. I have a 5.1 surround sound setup. I checked all my cables and found none to be loose. Plus, if I exit the game and then come back in, it is not there. Sometimes the crackle is so bad I have to mute the game and that really takes away from the experience, not to mention my driving abilities.

The latest patch may have corrected this issue but I have not done another night race to verify this.

Have you tried using it with other games or films? Sounds hardware related but I could be wrong.

If all the connections are secure and it doesn't do this with any other game or film, then you could try ensuring the disk is clean and not scratched. Other than that I'm not sure.

I occasionally experience sound problems with my 5.1 system also. I suspect it is the same thing you're describing. It sounds like the engine noises are intermittently cutting out, perhaps the crackling sound you describe. It is annoying, but it doesn't happen often. There may not be a correlation, but I first noticed it driving my Corvette Z06, and it seems to happen most often with that car. I think it's a bug.

This does seem to be a software issue then, I stand corrected! In that case just have to hope it is addressed in a patch at some point.

I get sound problems (crackles, cutting in and out, other weird issues) when racing near several other cars. It seems like the game can't decide which engine sounds to play, or how to play them all at once or something. As soon as I leave the pack the sound goes back to normal.

It seems to happen more often in one-make races.

Yes it only happens to me during Shift 2. I never touch the bottom of my disks or leave them out so I am fairly sure that there are no scratches. I do believe it is a bug with the game and all of your experiences are the same as mine. I just find it odd that it only happens in night races.

I just did the first endurance race at Road America last night and did not experience this. That was a full 16 car race.

At either rate, thanks for your response confirming my suspicions. I would have cried if it was my speakers that were bad :(

When you do the night endurance race it breaks up alot in the first lap then same spot every lap after that.

Sometimes when I restart during a crash the sound gets distorted and I have to restart the game... sometimes the engine sound cuts and I can only ear the transmition whine but that fixes itself...
No big deal...

Talking about restating after big crashes, doing the eliminators it often mucks up the rolling start! Either the lead ca randomly brakes hard or some of the cars just flip up in the air for no reason.

Last night I was working on track mastery and subsequently did a lot of night races. I did not hear the crackle one single time. In fact, the sound was very fluid and clear. Seems like that was something they addressed in the 1.02 patch!

I was racing in riviera with my works elise against some Mp4-12cs one time and one of the cars engines was chopping like it had a hole in its exhaust. And I have an xbox with a extremely loud boom chair and a sony stereo system hooked up to it to play at the same time, so I definately heard it clearly.:nervous:

I had this problem a long time ago when the first Shift came out

Couldn't figure it out for the life of me - I was getting horrible crackling and "clipping" type sounds during races (not so much menu)

Finally switched the audio off of the HDMI cable and pushed it through the analog CART connector and routed the RCA cables into my Behringer 5 channel mixer

I've never had a problem since, and the separation of audio from the video in the HDMI cable seems to improve frame rate slightly

I'm not sure, I might be tripping. :P

I noticed (only happens then), is when I did the vette race (still doing it). It wasn't that bad but noticeable, that being said the vette sounds badass

Yes, there are times when the engine sound cuts out. It only seems to last for that race though. On the previous game, you had to restart the game to get your sound back. I wish it would cut out more on the Vette. That car is many decibels louder than the other cars.
