Do you need a HDTV to play GT:HD/P/5? I Still have an Old CRT and cannot afford A HD right now but I still wanted to get A PS3 and GT.

Thx Much

Nope... It'll look better, but it is not a requirement...

Not even a requirement. PS3 graphics are amazing in any resolution. Real life looks quite good on a standard TV. ;)

I've actually been playing the Prologue demo in standard def so I could videotape a few laps, and it looks nearly as good as in 1080i, which unfortunately is all my current Samsung can manage.

I have a SD set too, everything works just fine.

Like said above, it will look better on HD, but it's not a requirement.

Honestly, there is no way SD looks "nearly as good as" 1080i. I use 1080i to play and I have to switch to SD when I need to capture it with my computer.

The difference is obvious and huge. A HD set is so cheap now, it is hard to justify not to go HD. CC had a 32" LCD 720p on sale not long ago for under $500USD.

Since I can't post any links, you will have to search it yourself.

I went from a small CRT (that only let me play GT5 Prologue demo in B&W and SD – though it was still good) to using a Full HD 37" LCD (with 3msec reaction time) and 1080p.

My lap times got noticeably worse as it seems so realistic that I am less inclined to take risks out of an automatic self-preservation instinct! Having to learn to be brave to speed up now!

Well, my Samsung is an exceptional TV. SD does look amazing on it. It just looks slightly... fuzzier? Over AA'd? But I will say that in 1080, the Prologue demo is crisp and almost breathtaking.

The latest SDTVs do look stunning, I'll have to say. They use processing and trickery, but darn they look nice. A friend bought a Sharp, and... it was sharp! We watched Monsters Inc, and it looked almost HD. By all means I agree that HD is the way to go, and I'm going to get one of the Sony or Samsung 120hz models as soon as I can afford one. I want Full HD for my PS3. ;)

And I'm envious of speedyK's rig. My couch is a chiropractor's dream. Meh.

Quite true. In fact, I think it was Costco that was selling a 28" 1080p LCD for under $600.

While the PS3 still looks great in SD, HD not only looks better, but the XMB and PSN Store layouts are better in HD, and you'll see more of the game, as they are mostly cropped on the left and right side if displayed in SD... thus missing out on about 25% of what is being displayed on the screen.

The wife has been convinced........for Black Friday of next year.

We have to save up for our Hawaii trip.

I play on a CRT Sony 36" TV. I looks great but I do set it to enhanced widescreen.

I think GT5 was built for a widescreen TV (based on rearview and side mirrors) but whether that TV is HD or not doesnt matter as long as your happy with it.

The best display is obviously a nice, big, widescreen, 1080p HDTV and if you dont have one just know that your not getting 100% out of the visual experience.
