Ok,

So after having posted the question if shift 2 would affect, or not, my driving in GT5, I decided to buy Shift 2 out of PSN.

Its a great game and the racing is quite stressfull and busy (in a good way), however, the collisions kill the game for me.

I cant understand the idiotic collision system, by which I rub into a car and I misteriously get attracted to such car unable to enter into a spin or something like that. Is there any fix or option to tone down this effect?

Also, I drive GT5 with a Logitech G25 with manual clutch, but I cant do it in Shift 2... The clutch is inexistant (I chose "no auto clutch", but its still not good enough.. its wierd) and the wheel itself feels lifeless. I found that I actually prefer playing with the DS3 than with a wheel.

Am I the only one?

feel free to add me @ PSN: sngd

EDIT: And good news. It did not affect my GT5 driving. :)

Did you update to the 2nd patch? After that, FFB should be fine. Also wheel settings are very important in this game, there are several threads on this topic here and in other forums. Also some vids on the tube. I cant drive Shift 2 with the pad at all, save for the Drift events, which are useless with a wheel (actually useless period imho but I dont get drifting). I have a DFGT and imho the FFB is as good as GT5.

About collisions: Yes, thats bad and you cant actually do anything about it.
Good news is: That teaches you to race and overtake cleaner and stop using the opponents as mobile braking spots and just ram them out the way. This is in no way an excuse for the bad collision system but its one of the factors why this game makes you a better racing driver. :sly:

Hum... I downloaded the game from PSN, didnt have any updates ready... I guess it already had all the updates.

I am going to try and find those wheel settings! Thanks!

Concerning the collisions.... Unfortunately, it tends to make me a rather frustrated driver, since the AI (which is very good) is so agressive, that they tend to slightly touch me when I'm passing them and boom.. there I go to the sand traps (which also suck you by the way.. :S)

As for little touches, it may happen, but the game has a gigantic force of attraction. Its not natural :S

It can do that (frustrating the hell out of a driver) but once you get used to it its very rewarding when you're able to overcome those dreaded AI.

I know what you mean and it is incredibly frustrating because 99.9% of the time you come off second best, but as someone else said, it teaches you a very clean driving style. When you accelerate at the start of a race, you quickly learn to either weave cleanly between the AI cars, or you pull back from full acceleration and pick the right moment to ovetake.

If you watch any sort of motor racing, they avoid touching each other at all costs and my thinking has always been that this encourages that sort of driving.

Either way, touching another car, even if you come off cleanly and stay on the track, will take a few seconds off your lap time.

All up, now that I've played it for a while, I really don't mind it.

I agree.

You soon adjust to the AI, and it should make your racing more life-like....and prepare you better for some of the fools online.

Personally I find the magnetic attraction to the barriers/tunnel sides far more annoying and unrealistic. :irked:

My biggest frustration was high speed sweepers that should be able to be taken at full throttle have to be geared down to clear the corner without sliding off.

The Sweeper at Suzuki, Spa going down the hill, Nurburgring, etc...

The AI can do it without lifting, why can't I?

The contact with other cars and railing never bothered me. You're not supposed to hit those anyway...

its all to do with the way you set your car up, i like sliding and it works for me and i can take both they corners flat depending on the car i am driving

i.e. porsche 911 gt3 RSR takes both flat out however porsche 918 i have to lift because the approching speed is a lot faster,

remember this is not f1 and if you go to youtube you should find some in car clips that show that a porsche 911 gt3 cup car has to fether the gas though they turns,👍

Hey all.

Yesterday I was having a bit of lag on GT5 online so I decided to give shift 2 another shot.

Bought an R32, upgraded it to be my time attack monster, a bit of customization here and there (albeit I was very dissapointed with the lack of vynils and the ridiculous method to choose the color - downgrade when compared with shift 1) and went on to the carreer time attacks.

It felt so right. The handling - although more on the arcade side - was spot on and the force feedback was great. I then tried to do other race (some race with a loaner viper) and it didn't feel that good...

Oh well, I guess its a love/hate relationship, but the game did earn a spot on my ps3 for offline laid back races!

However, I do think that I can fi some of the problems with a bit of car tuning. Does anyone know any good guide?

Regards!

Have you tried the Renown tunes from this forum ?

The R35 with engine swap is now my B class machine of choice for online.

It utterly destroys all opposition away from the line ...but handles great too, with a bit of 'manhandling' around the bends.

Brilliant on Mt.Panorama.
