Once GT6 comes out, is it worth keeping GT5?

I've read that all cars in GT5 will be carried over to GT6 plus an extra 100 + or so new ones. Night, weather, A-Spec, B-Spec etc will all be a part of GT6 (though, thankfully, no more separate B-Spec mode which I hate) In which case, is there anything GT5 will have to warrant keeping it? I hate the XP system which is also apparently gone in GT6.

For example, Forza 2 and Forza 3 had cars which were absent from Forza 4 therefore there was a logical reason to keep previous titles of the series. However, I'm finding it hard to find anything that GT5 has that GT6 won't have.

In my opinion, no. GT6 will make GT5 obsolete. GT6 will have all cars from GT5 and then some. The physics in GT6 will also be significantly improved on top of it. And as a whole, GT6 is virtually looking to be better game than GT5 in every way. The only reason I'm keeping GT5 is purely for the sake of keeping my GT game collection complete. I do not see myself coming back to it for any reason once GT6 arrives, mainly because I thought GT5 was a massive disappointment.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it looks likely the Chromelines and Stealth editions will stay unique to GT5; GT6 gets the 15th anniversary models. The Top Gear Test Track looks to be cut from GT6, going by the website. The Course Maker will likely be a lot different - and I'd be surprised if the GT5 tracks can be re-used in GT6, though we don't know about that. I might be missing some things, but that's all I can think of at the moment 👍

I think GT6 won't make GT5 obsolete, but then again, we don't know a whole lot about GT6. I will still like to go back to my custom tracks (signs point to them not being transferable), so in my opinion, that is a great reason why I will keep GT5. Oh, and collection.

Chippy's right though. There's a thread that basically covers the same topic.

Hyrbids. We're not sure to what extent GT6 will allow us to tune the cars. I don't care for "hybridding" though.

I too think GT6 will make GT5 virtually obsolete. Near complete overlap in cars and complete overlap in tracks is the main thing for me. I've made lots of course maker tracks which I can't carry over but I'm expecting the new Course Maker to be far superior once it's launched and won't likely get into that for months anyway as I discover all the new cars and tracks in GT6. Hybriding won't be around, at least in the beginning...lol...so if you're into that then GT5 may have some life left for you.

...so it's no nostalgia for you of very specific tracks you or any other person has made. Also (or, You shouldn't forget to mention), we still don't know if we can hand craft our old tracks from GT5 in GT6 like a lot of people are making it out to seem without knowing anything about the new Course Maker, but I think nostalgia is great. Just great :).

With the 2nd hand value of 5 being so low and falling, selling it would be wasteful.
👍

Yeah, you guys just confirmed what I already felt. No point in keeping GT5 once GT6 comes out in a couple of months. I just hope A-Spec has more depth to it because GT5 was really watered down compared to the Forza series and previous GT titles.

The fact that GT6 will have no separate A&B Specs (thank lord), no more XP levels (thank lord again), better physics, better online system, faster UI, more cars and tracks as well (hopefully) an improved course maker, GT5 will offically be done for me once GT6 releases.

I also agree with you on career mode Ryan, it needs serious improvement with lots of events added in because GT5's career mode really was short and stale. What I hope for, is a lot of rally events just like in GT4, there was so much I enjoyed in there that GT5 couldn't even compare.

Yep, GT4's single player career mode puts GT5's to shame, tbh TokoTurismo. Let's hope we see a significant improvement in GT6. Another thing that annoyed me about GT5's A-Spec mode: why is it that so many races were region-specific? Like Schwarzwald A & B, Trofeo Lamborghini etc.
I want to see Asian, European, Australasian & American cars going head-to-head. I want to see the best of what Germany has to offer vs Italy's best.
I want to see a Jag XKR-S up against an M5. I want to see a Pagani Huayra up against a Lamborghini Aventador up against a Ferrari f12berlinetta.

Unless you are a die-hard fan of the Top Gear Test Track (which doesn't appear to be in the vanilla version of GT6) or commited to online events which take place in GT5, GT6 makes it obsolete.

+1 It absolutely does put GT5's career mode to shame. 👍

Now that you mention it, you're right. GT6 will honestly needs more variety car events, and events like you mentioned above. Those are the kind of events I will welcome and enjoy. I mean, if your game is going to have 1200 cars, at least make some events where famous manufacturers and cars that're rivals with others vs each other. :)

No. I won't be getting rid of my GT5 when GT6 comes out. I'd still play it for the Hybrids and driving the Top Gear Test Track.

I consider myself to be a game collector so I rarely get rid of my PS3 games.

The only thing I've heard GT6 NOT having from GT5 was the Top Gear Test Track... But other than that, (unless you want to include hacked cars), then I don't see much point in going back to GT5. I don't really ever sell any of my games, so it'll probably lay around and gather dust unless I want to try getting the platinum trophy... Which I probably won't.

Do you keep fecal matter in your toilet bowl? Nope, I don't! GT5 = crap. Get it?

I'll likely trade it in and get $5.75. Can't wait! Big money. Probably will buy myself a few burritos or something. A man's got to eat, no?

And when GT7 comes out, GT6 will be worth even less. Round and round we go.

If it's bothersome that the resale value of a video game is that of disposable lighter, then only buy used. Easy as that.

^^^^This....plus I have the Camaro "Edge Special" which will not carry over and 3 or 4 Course Maker tracks that I absolutely enjoy more than half of the tracks in GT5. It would not be worth it to trade in, so I will keep it. Although it will most likely end up like GT and GT2 which I have and never touch, or GT4 which is good for only certain tracks such as Infineon or El Capitan to me. Unfortunately, this idiot got rid of GT3 and STILL REGRET it as it was probably the BEST in the series. (My Opinion)

^ This is why I keep all of my games ;)

Eh, much like the cars in the series, there's a point where a GT game stops depreciating and starts going up in value. GT1 and GT2 are such examples now, though not at the heady levels of things like black-label FFVII's.

Well not really but GT5 has better graphics, not only more detailed but it runs smoother and with less aliasing.

I will keep GT5. There will probably be a few things that won't be in GT6 that will cause me to pull it and play every now and then

When GT6 comes out I will put my copy of GT5 in a box with other memorable games and give it a well deserved rest.

This is a good question. Kinda wondering the same thing myself. Regardless I will be renting GT6 before considering a purchase. GT5 was overall a huge disappointment to me and glad I never actually purchase the game. It was a Christmas present.

Just for collector purposes I'll put it on the shelf with all my other GT games! Back into the Signature Edition box it goes!

I actually traded GT5, along with GTA IV and Dante's Inferno for a 30 euro discount on a brand spankin' new GTA V. Was a darn good deal in my opinion!

FYI. I sold GT5 because yes it will be obsolete, GTA IV because I didn't really like it (and I LOVE V!), and Dante's Inferno because it was fun for a one-time playthrough...
