Once GT6 comes out, is it worth keeping GT5?

GT games are like sports games. Once the new one is out, there is no reason to visit old ones. Maybe for nostalgia, but nothing more.

Do you keep fecal matter in your toilet bowl? Nope, I don't! GT5 = crap. Get it?

I'll likely trade it in and get $5.75. Can't wait! Big money. Probably will buy myself a few burritos or something. A man's got to eat, no?

Excellent response.

I find that there is no point of going back after GT6. GT6 is everything GT5 is supposed to be x10. Going back to GT5 is like going from Forza 4 to Forza 3.

Go back to GAF :P

^ This is why I keep all of my games ;)

Eh, much like the cars in the series, there's a point where a GT game stops depreciating and starts going up in value. GT1 and GT2 are such examples now, though not at the heady levels of things like black-label FFVII's.

Thank you for saying that I was hoping someone would. 👍

I've never played GT1 or GT2(Yeah I know), but even still based on Real-life and on this site I could tell I missed out in a few years though as far as GT5 goes everyone will probably be like Gran Turismo who????

When a game makes a great impression on you like GT1-4 did like SlipZtrEm said once it stops going down in value going to go up.

Right now i regret a lot giving away GT3 and GT4 and praying for a PSN release some day.

Plus GT1-GT4 made many leaps and bounds with each game brought to us. I still miss the 3D crowds from GT4(or at least the fact they did more than just stand).

No reason to get rid of it, but it will become obsolete with time. Think, how often do you go back and play Gran Turismo 4, besides for occasional nostalgia trips? The answer is probably no. It's outdated and outdone in pretty much every respect by GT5, and the same could be said of the transition to 6, although to be fair it won't be as big as b/w 4 and 5, as there will not be a console leap this time around. Besides, it isn't worth much for reselling, might as well keep it.

Now I wish I had kept my copy of GT2 from long, long ago (two disc set IIR), but I know that if played it I would be sorely disappointed in the graphics. Reminds me of how every now and then I get nostalgic and find some Atari 2600 game, but its novelty wears off quickly.

I admit I made a hasty decision when I traded GT3 for GT4, but I still have GT4 and I'm going to hold onto GT5 for a long while. What makes me keep and play the older titles are the cars and tracks that get omitted from title to title. Otherwise the GT modes don't have much replay value for me. Why would I want to redo the license tests or run 24 hours of LeMans in 24 hours of sunlight again? :-P

I might sell it off in my country for a handsome sum of money given how expensive videogame stuff is, especially PS3 and WiiU games :mischievous:

Or I might keep it around as a collector's item.

Interesting question...

Back in the PS2 and PS1 days, I kept GT1 after I got GT2 and I kept GT3 when GT4 came out, but... since I can't use my hybrids in GT5, and I'm not planning to update ever, and since offline mode in GT5 is such a 🤬... I think this time will be the exception to the rule...

A game which has sold 10+ million copies won't be going up in value much. Talking from a retrogame collecting experience. Unless the game is REALLY old (say 30 years) and almost unavailable in it's original package. But I don't think there'll be a shortage of GT5's. Not for the next 40 years.

If GT5 loses value so much, I wonder about my sealed Wipeout 2079 PSX :( Will it worth a few dollars ?

It's sealed. So yes that's a difference. Is it rare? The game itself not, but a sealed copy can be worth quite a few bucks especially for someone who wants to complete a Wipeout collection :) Don't expect it to be worth a 1000 dollars though... I think you should be able to grab a 100 dollars for this one.

It's a PAL version with the thick box case, original Playstation seal with ribbon strip, I kept it for more than 15 years :) Not sure how many are out there, but I'll keep it for at least another 15 years .

That will drive the price up! Mind you, Wipout 2097 sold quite a few, but not nearly as much as a GT5 for example. In 15 years it may be very rare to get sealed...

Have to disagree with some of this. I decided to pick GT4 back up, and along with GT3, I'll be completing as much of it as possible until GT6 comes out. I would be playing GT5 instead if it wasn't such a let down for me.

And GT5 outdoes GT4? Only in some of ways. GT5's single player is vastly inferior.

I see no reason to get rid of any game I like, especially not for the tiny amount of money that you would get on a trade for a game that is 3 years or more old. Better to keep it or give it to a friend.

The better question is "Once GT6 comes out, is it worth getting rid of GT5?"

Because unless it makes you physically sick having it in your presence, there isn't much point in selling it unless you have a sealed Collector's Edition or Gamestop does a promotion for a GT5 -> GT6 trade in or something.

Damn, Tornado, I just thought exactly the same thing!

I have two copies, I'd feel pretty lucky if I were offered more than £5 for both at a retailer. I doubt I'll even bother trading one in, it's pointless.

I will keep my GT5 Box and the cool little car that came with it and all the other jazz. You never know, the debut Gran Turismo on the PS3 may become halfway valuable later in life. I do hope everyone else throws their games away or destroys them though! Ha! Honestly though, once GT6 comes out GT5 will be a memory, a good one, but a memory nonetheless.

Funny enough even the A.I in GT4 or GT3 felt tougher, but you know I think that had a lot more to do with the fact that certain race cars were restricted, and the fact that they had a dedicated class level at least in GT3.

GT3's AI had rubber banding; and GT4 tended to have AI with power levels much higher than the player would typically use (like the Opel Speedster race where all of the AI had power levels higher than the player could actually achieve).

GT2 AI was pretty good in certain races like the Luxury Car event and BTCC. The Enduro(99 laps?) with Tuner cars on the oval track made me race hard.

GT3 AI from the Boxer Engine event at Deep Forest, The Tuner Car Event at Apricot Hill and the MX5 Event at Apricot Hill always gave me a good run. Its like the AI in the GT5 Tuner Event at Suzuka (if the Amuse S2000 starts midpack though). I got rid of GT4 as I thought all the Australian cars would be in the game.

Do you know any problems with GT1's and GT2's AI? :)

I'm keeping it, but I already wiped it off my HD, minus save files. It was 12 or so gigs and took 15 min for it to delete! GT6 feels like it will be what GT5 was supposed to be, so to me GT5 will be obsolete. Plus I needed HD space for GTA5 install.

It's a no brainer for me tbh. I still have all the GT games from the very first one including the scratch and sniff GT2 disk version. None them work bar GT1 on my PS3 from the earlier generations and I also have tourist trophie too and my signature edition GT5 is signed by David Coulthard so there is not a chance in hell I would get rid of any of my old games. They all have a very special place in my heart. I remember the release dates for all of them and remember my wide eyed rabbit in the headlights look with every new opening credit scene!!
