When I say customize the starting grid, I'm not talking about what cars appear, but talking about having the ability to set the number of AI cars in arcade mode that can appear on the starting lineup may it be the traditional 5 AI cars all the up the to the max of 15.

Anyhow I was playing Daytona USA 2001 the other day and it got me thinking about this given the fact in that game you can set the number of cars that appear during the pre-race(10, 20, 30 or 40). Why I like this idea..there are times when I don't like a crowded race when going against the AI.

Anyhow I was wondering what you guys think

Enthusia gave you the ability to choose exactly what cars were on the starting grid, and the order. I think this is a great feature and really really hope GT5 incorporates it. I like your idea too, but picking the cars (in arcade races only obviously) is more important to me.

F1CE has an online feature I really like(d) if you are in a lobby with just a few people you can fill out the rest of the grid with AI cars. In other words when you set up the lobby you can choose how many spots there will be,say you chose 22 cars and there are only 4 people there will be 18 AI cars.

I totally love this idea, i also liked it in GT4 when you took a convertible, you could choose (Arcade mode) if you want to drive with a closed top against 5 cars, or with an open top against 1 other (hardware limitations, but the 1 on 1 races were fun).

@Choosing which cars are in the grid:
Codemasters did this in ToCA Race Driver 1, they had to take it out from the next games because the manufacturers didnt want this (a trustworthy CM employee told me that).

Heres hoping there a grid full stop, rolling starts are fine for endurance races but I prefer grid starts for standard races.

Yes yes yes!
How hard could this be for PD to implement? I'd love to see it though, especially seeing as the AI seem to be improving.

this would be a good idea for a free race or arcade race, but I think if it is allowed in the GT Mode it could take away a lot from the mode.

I want qualifying for all events and standing starts for all events.

Except Daytona surely? Not all race series and circuits and can support standing starts ;)
It would be kind of wrong to have a standing Le Mans start unless you had a mini-game where you run to your car and start it.

run to your car and start it.

That is how ATV and motorcycle hare scrambles start. Very entertaining to watch, especially when everyone had kick start motors.

I think 2 wide rolling starts would be a lot beter than single wide, spaced out starts that are currently in GT5P. Of course that is a terrible idea if you dont know the quality of racers you are starting next to:scared:

Standing starts are best, but like posted above, LMS doesnt do it so GT5 shouldnt either.

^I was referencing the "Le Mans start" which used to be the standard way to start races - having the drivers run to their cars and start them before racing off. It was quickly ditched though because many drivers didn't put their seat belts on until a few laps into the race!

Standing starts (normal style) would be just plain wrong though at Le Mans. I definitely want 2 or 3 car wide rolling starts though. The current 1 by 1 routine is unfair without qualifying.

Custom race editor would be nice. I also like to have qualifying in the game as it is quite unrealistic to have player win 2-3 lap race if he does not have a faster car than AI. And i want close racing and not races when player starts from last place and has a faster car and race becomes a overtaking marathon.

Nascar and Endurance events should have side by side rolling starts. Everything else should have standing starts and absolutely every event must have qualifying.

Custom grids, including the ability to race against tuned cars from your guarage.

I think an interesting challenge would be to have a grid made up of 15 other identical versions of your tuned up car. Would of course expect to qualify still, but racing against the same machine should really show up the quality (or not) of the AI.

I've always said that the GT series has been let down by the lack of options. This is just another great example of where PD fail.

They could give us the option to select the number of cars on the grid, select each car or pick "classes" of car. Rolling starts, stationary or staggered start times, with the option to select the time gaps as well.

There are so many options that PD could give us, but they don't for some odd reason. By giving us the option to choose, they can cater for more peoples wishes, so everyone is happy.

I'd like to be able to choose cars from a list, instead of having 2 200hp cars, 3 250hp cars, 5 300hp cars, and the "freak" car with 400hp in front. I really hate that, then the entire race is just trying to catch the rabbit car, and there are no other cars to race :(

What I would like to be able to choose is (for Arcade races as well as online hosted ones):

1) a) Option: "All cars like mine" (i.e. essentially a Cup-Race)
b) Option: All cars with max. XXX PP's
c) Optional limits for tyres, tuning, drivetrain
d) Optional choice of "particular cars only"

2) a) Qualifying yes/no, plus alternatively...
b) choice of starting position
