What do you guys think about adding an option of how to control a car in GT5. PD should let players control every aspect of how they drive their cars. Right now every car in GT4 controls like an F1 car which is very unrealistic. How about adding a clutch button and letting the players do the heel-and-toe motions with their fingers.

I think L1 could be the clutch the button. So every time you upshift you would need to let go of the gas button (X), press and hold the clutch button (L1), hit the upshift button (R2), let go of the clutch button (L1) while simultaneously pressing the gas button again (X). For heel-and-toe downshifts you would need to press the brake button (SQUARE), press and hold the clutch button (L1) while simultaneously taping the gas button (X) and the downshift button (L2), and letting go of the clutch button (L1).

Seems awkward huh? Well that's how it is in real life. But like in real life, you'll get used to it after some time. This should be an OPTION of course. The main thing that this could add is that when people set up online races they could set up the option that every driver competing has to use this type of control. I think this could create some really exciting racing.

Of course making mistakes while shifting should have the same effects that they do in real life. Grinding gears, compression braking, overred engines, stalling, etc. I never though I could get exited about those things.

Also, with the new logitech wheel, players using the clutch and gated shifter, could compete against players using the controller and playing the game under this control scheme, and it would be fair.

You can Heel-toe with the fingers, problem being that hitting a clutch button accurately is difficult.

and, it's not like that game can't support a clutch...If you have the right racing wheel...

Have we officially heard that GT5 supports the clutch (and shifter?) on the G25?

Just curious, since the Gran Turismo HD sees the G25 as a DFP thus does not support either of those functions.

If the clutch is available, then for online play there should be races for clutch only, i find it much harder with my G25 on games that do require a clutch, maybe thats because i have only ever driven a car by myself once (on a beach) and I will get used to it, but i can't help feeling I am at a disadvantage.

-> As long as the G25 will be compatible with GT5, I'm cool with it. I can heel-toe and double-clutch in real life so I can deal with it. They better come up with a G25 compatibility. :grumpy:

it would be nice to allow the clutch feature tho because then you could do much easier burnouts and be able to control the car more acurately than using the brake like the current games

-> With the G25, I can trully follow Dori-Dori's Drift Bible. This will help a lot of drifting fans, "SHIFT LOCK". (:

I'm all for clutches as long as its real life, Analogue... clutches are rarely on or off... there is a friction point so realistically you should be able to stall the car if you just let go of the clutch without any gas.

For this the L2 or R2 buttons woudl be perfect, as they are now analogue but I would stick to steering wheel and pedal setup as I would probably break my fingers trying to heel and toe (a.k.a thumb and forefingers lol)

-> I just tried out the PC version of the Logitech G25 at Fry's Electronics. All I can say that its very addicting to use and the clutch function works perfectly well I might say. 👍

-> The game I played was Test Drive: Unlimited Demo version, the game has twitchy physics, but I don't want to summerize the game. But I cant wait for the PS3 version of the G25, and I can't imagine what will GT5 w/ the G25 will bring to us. :scared:

(:

Imagine using L2 as the clutch, L1 to downshift, R1 to upshift, SQUARE brake, and X gas. Heel and toe would consist of of pushing the brake button, and then almost simultaneously hitting L2 + L1 + X. Doesn't seem that hard to me.

Maybe Sony should make a special controller for GT5, with buttons with a little more analog play to make fine adjustments easier, and slightly stiffer buttons for that pedal feel. Sell it for $50 with some nice racy designs on it, and it would be a nice alternative for people who can't spend $300 for a steering wheel.

Gran Turismo desperately needs a clutch - you cannot power out of a corner or a hand-brake (e-brake) turn - unless you are using manual and gear down enough so you have enough revs but its just not realistic, i mean can you imagine a 500hp Evo not having enough power to burst out of a corner while shredding that rubber??? well thats how i feel when i play GT:HD :( its like the revs just die!
