Online racing: Too competitive?

Too competitive? It's a race, it's meant to be competitive.
I recently raced against two black NSX drivers with KOR_ in their username, never heard of them. But they were fast!
I always drive a NSX on suzuka 550 rwd and I like to believe that I'm quite fast, but this was something else. I held them off for 4 laps but in the final lap I brake a little too late for the chicane and I lost the race by 0,010 of a second.
All of this with good clean racing, being overtaken on the straight, diving to the inside and retaking first place, driving on the edge for 5 whole laps.

I just love it when races are so competitive.

Personally I like things being competitive. I ignore lap times because I don't excel at them, I am much quicker on the track. I raced a few KOR_ members last night also I commented about it in another thread. Side-by-side racing for all 5 laps, about 20 overtakes on one another never a gap of more than 2 or 3 splits between us. The racing was intense and competitive but most of all it was fun.

I don't mind drivers talking about how quick they free run because I know that the real challenge is replicating that speed and composure in race conditions, I never let others quick times put me off.

On the subject of KOR_ racers. I drove against a fair few last night, its great racing these clan/board? members because they are both rapid and clean drivers, not only that but you know they are competent drivers who will comfortably drive side-by-side with you going into a corner without the worry of them running you off the road even if they have 'the line'. Its this good mix of aggression yet manners that is provided by fair but competitive driving which makes online racing fun. You wont see driving like that from an AI. I see similar driving from many GTP drivers which is great to see, it would be nice if everyone drove to this standard. :)

Racing is defined as a competition of speed.
Racing is about winning, to compete to be the fastest.. I raced IRL to win, I race online to win. Most often I can't win, as there are better, more skilled (and more consistent) drivers out there. That being the case, second option is to race to the best of my ability and let the results fall where they may. A good race is door to door, clean lines AND good lap times. As is always the case with racing, there are differing skill levels, and while it may be true that some racers concentrate on super fast lap times, other do too, and therefore the bar gets raised. These 'superfast' racers compete against each other in a race, and the drivers of lesser speed also compete amongst themselves in the competition of speed, to see who makes the finish line first. If you are not in the game to improve your performance (your laptime), your not racing, you're on a Sunday drive.
A clean consistent lap time is what we all aim to achieve, we do the best we can to compete against others. I believe it diminishes the art of racing to separate the superfast drivers from the rest, it gives the impression that you think they are 'too' good.
Racing is about being humble. Very (very) few drivers can say they are the best but no matter how good you are, there is someone of equivalent skill and these are the people you race against to win against them.
Superfast drivers also have other superfast drivers to compete against. Why should their ethics in racing be any different than yours? They still want to compete against drivers of equivalent skill and win against them, using clean, consistent laptimes, but as is the nature of anything involving skill, its lonely at the top. I'm very very sure they guys at the top appreciate a close clean race as much as anyone, perhaps even more, as it probably happens less often that it does with us others down in the fat part of the pyramid.
Racing is about winning, but for the vast majority its about losing. Even though I lose, I still aim to win and to improve my performance to do just that. Thats why i race, and call myself a racer.

It’s all said here. Nothing more noting less.

I don’t mind for witch place I’m fighting for as long as I’ve got a good clean battle. And if it’s for first place it’s a nice bonus.

You wont see driving like that from an AI.

I actually have to disagree on this one.
If you look at replays like the one Paulie posted here you can clearly see that the AI knows where other cars are , except if you're making a very aggressive overtaking move.
But if you have a look at online racing the same will happen there if you try such a move.
The AI CAN take corners side by side without touching, even in a bigger group. I'm leaving the Lotus out of this, as it's the punters equivalent of AI drivers ;)
They will actually leave room and hold back if they can't overtake without banging each other up, even when you're racing against them.
In my opinion there are a lot of online racers that can learn a few things from the AI.

Fast competitive and clean driving from the AI? I don't think so. The Ai is very slow and while its aware of your presence these days, its not as great. Some drivers online could certainly learn from AI's but I think they could learn a whole lot more from KOR_ racers and indeed a good number of GTP and GTRP'ers.

I once had a GT online race on the high speed ring and I pulled away from the pack - but so did another guy. Me in an R35, him in a 430, the racing was so close and once coming off the second turn, I incurred a penalty and I could hear from this guy's 430 that as he overtook me, he backed off and waited for me to get off the penalty - meaning that this guy (and I for that matter) would have rathered a full bore driving battle instead of a garanteed first of second place. The difference was 15000cr and I probably would of paid it again to get anther one of those driving moments. It's moments like these that make the GT series so good - those moments when everything is right and it all slots in place.
If you want timetrial online, timetrial is the place to be - not a race

........ but I think they could learn a whole lot more from KOR_ racers and indeed a good number of GTP and GTRP'ers.

IMHO: I agree, 99.999% of the time you won't have a KOR_ racer intentionally punting you off to the hinter land and as stated above a fair number of GTP and GTRP'ers are just as good. There seems to be an innate willingness to extend courtesies even to us lowly "back markers." In fact I've had racers of the above mentioned "Clans/Tags" fall back and race with those of us who are not quite as fast. The experienced gained is wonderful and I say "Thanks!" 👍 There are of course always the "exceptions." :nervous:

Remember everyone complaining in the beginning of GT5:P online racing?
Now that things have settled down a bit, it's much cleaner en way more fun.

In other words: there's still hope for the full version :D

Wooo, where have you been. Long time no race. :) 👍

Hi mate,Yes it's been too long.Too much work.
Will be racing again tonight.👍

That is so true,Indeed the level of racing has gone up.:nervous::)
Lets hope it wont take too long before the full version comes out,for me it cant be soon enough.👍
