Only 2/3 of a rear wing in 2007?

I’m scared. I know I suggested no wings at all, but a rear wing with a chunk out of the middle? Eeer, I’ll keep my crazy suggestions to myself next time.

Seriously though, what do you think? Is he crazy? Will the cars look stupid?

Hmm...that sounds...interesting. That would look quite odd, especially if the teams continue to try and make up for thge lack of downforce with more "devices".

It’s actually a pretty awesome concept. If you follow another car with a rear wing like that, I think at least 70% of the front wing would be in clean air. If they lowered the front wing again and used this concept on the rear wing(s) it would make for much more overtaking – or at least make it much easier to follow another car.

I hope this will be in for 2007!

MAN just saw the things this morning right now on formula1.com, first impression WHAT NO REAR WING!! but then i read the article and was surprised that it was enjoyable. i am in for it if it puts more overtaking in a race and slick tyres on then hell go for it. plus this is going to make it safer now Mclaren won\'t understeer so badly when trying to get around someone through drafting in corners hahaha

The Zonda has a spoiler somewhat like this... I think it looks cool in the drawing, and as long as it does what it says it does, then it's awesome!

One thing though – these wings cut the sponsorshop area of the rear wing, they certainly won’t be worth what they were before.

Never thought about that, maybe they can come up with some crazy design, maybe stick some sponsors on the diffusers or something creative

Looks good to me. When I first heard about it I immediately thought "Zonda", like iceburns288 said.

On the sponsership front, there's now two areas to cover in stickers, plus an extra set of end plates to put them on. Easier to see from outside the car, too, with no engine cover in the way. Only downside is the rear onboard camera won't pick it up too well.

I bet the cars will handle like cack if one of them gets knocked off in an accident.

Looks like crap, but it'll change the difficulty of passing, so it wont be that bad.

Suppose it's 6 to one and half a dozen of the other.

Also, doesn't the exhaust heat from the car infront mean you can't follow for so long? Suppose that can't be fixed either.

well this does cause some problems in case of an accident and one wing rips off then you\\\'ll have an unequal balance of downforce, which in F1 thats not good
This wing will make the drivers have a ride of their life with so much turbulence behind them the guy drafting can\\\'t stay for too long the car will be too unstable. hope someone tests this with two real cars, and records it

right now i am focusing on motorcycles and researching the new Rules and such of Formula 1

The gap in the middle means that the centre of the front wing is in clean air, before none of the front wing would be in clean air. The gap in the middle means that the front of the car doesn’t lose that much downforce – allowing you to follow the car in-front more easily.

if i understood the image right the red color is where most of the air will travel...

if that is the case the car behind the first car could go off into the air due to att the compressed air that is pushed down by the first car...

Because before moving to the side to overtake you first have to leave the clean air caused by the gap, then go past the dirty air caused by the two side spoilers and then into the clean air as you pull alongside.

I have a solution to all the dispute about overtaking and dirty air. Take your split rear wing, and raise it about 20 feet in the air.

This way, all front wings will have plenty of clean air and we won't have to worry about anything.

If it works, I'm all for it. Everyone hated the high-nosed F1 cars when they first debuted, but it's a moot point now.
However, they must lower the front wing back to 2000 season height. With the current 2005 height, it is still in too much dirty air.

I don't have much of a problem with this. It isn't really fair that an F1 car disturb the air behind in to prevent the following car from overtaking. It's fair to require that the cars create a minimal air disturbance for the car behind them.
