Then an even longer battle with @MightyL for 3rd, went on for about 8 laps I think and as mentioned a lapped car got in the way on the main straight and I came in with full speed and made an easy pass at the end. Almost got 2nd at the end but I ran out of laps.

Must be aero setting as I was much slower than you on straights.

Actually at the point where you started chasing me and getting all over my back, I was still hoping I could take 2nd place back from Rick after I made a silly mistake in the first lap giving the place away. I was slowly getting closer and closer to him but then we had our little getting together in turn 3 so I lost contact with him. Thanks for waiting there and letting me get back my place! I was defending intensively those 8 laps but I would have surrendered if there would have been a situation in which I felt it was the correct thing to do. Yes it was obvious your aero settings were quite different from mine. Also your braking you could do quite a bit later.

Well done @Cuber Tom for the win 👍 any tips for setting up the Ferrari?

I felt I did ok, considering. ;)

Thanks @andrew1990 for organising,

See you next time, hopefully with a little more practice.

I don't really know what i'm doing with the setup. I normally just mess with the aero to find what gives the best lap time for quail and for the race take a couple of clicks off to make overtaking and defending easier, although today I was running max aero to reduce tyre wear

Ok cool, that makes it more painful to bear ;)

Were you running soft tyres?

This week on "How not to be a backmarker"...

@MightyL offensive moment is at 8:20

Looks like you tried to get out the way and just misjudged it.
It better for you & the overtaking car if you let them passed on the straights.
If you let someone passed in a corner you have to think about steering and letting someone passed which can lead to crashes and you'll also lose all momentum down the next straight which costs you more time.

Attached are the results of qualifying and the race, along with a spreadsheet format detailing qualifying, race and best lap of the night results, with the latter a being taken from a combination of QP and the race (best lap goes in the table).

I'm hoping it all makes sense, but if it doesn't then please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for racing and see you at Vallelunga next week!

O boy i forgot to mention that quali time by @nissman. Over a second quicker than the rest of us humble snails...
I think if i'd done the best lap I could, I would had done a 1:38.2, which is still so far off nissmans time.
I was surprised I qualified 2nd since Ricky and Robqt both did a laps in the practice session that would have put them ahead of me.
Hopefully nissman slows down for the rest of the races so the rest of us have a chance.

'Hopefully nissman slows down for the rest of the races so the rest of us have a chance' says the leader in the standings :).

It shows fastest laps are not everything... i have seen nissman pretty vulnerable during the race. A crucial mistake in lap 1. A moment of crashing into me trying to overtake, another moment of almost losing it in corner 3 while chasing me making him fall back considerably.. there s hope fr the tom n ricks among us...

Did a few laps of Vallelunga last night. Great track, but that last sector is a total pain. Can't remember if it was a 1:35.0 or a 1:32.0 dead I did, but I'm leaving a lot of time in that final sector.

The kink at the beginning is going to be pretty tricky at the start of the race.

I ran some laps tonight in full stock trim, and managed 1:34.697, hopefully I can shave some time off that by dialling out some bad habits of the Ferrari!

As for the run through the link, if no-one gets too gready for their line we should make it through ok.
I've seen many online races where peeps just Dive across the track from side to side with no care for others.

I'd like to believe we are a more respectable bunch :D

I think last race showed we are. Turn 1 at Zandvoort is a very tricky one as well and I think we went through cleanly. If I remember right, lap 2 I went through that corner side by side with Rick, a little DTM-ish rub coming out of the corner but fair n clean.

I'm getting knocked about a bit more lately

Well, I rather have all the issues you mentioned and have good pace than no pace . :)

Anyway, I'll be testing at Vallelunga tonight if anyone wants to join.

Oh I'm jealous about your pace Nissman that's for sure :).

I'm jealous of you not spinning on lap 1. :D

Btw, on my pace at Zandvoort. I fund massive gains on race day with tunning, I went very soft on suspension setting at this very bumby track and few other adjustments got me almost a second! I was amazed at how much a good tune helps in AC. But it seems that you have to make a completly new tune for every track which is the way it should be in reality.

I'm now noticing that the basic stock setups are pretty slow in AC. A few good tweeks can get you seconds.

The default setups are understeer city. Apparently it helps the controller crowd, but I tried AC with a controller and it's just impossible.

Car set ups are so damn hard, though. Doesn't help that the units for set up in AC isn't standardised, but I normally find increasing camber and softening the rear helps a lot. lowering the car and sorting gears is fine, but after that I'm lost.

Tunes are track dependant aswell. At Spa, stiff suspension certnally helps, lower downforce and higher tyre pressures for better top speed. Complete opposite to a Zandvoort tune for example.

Assetto has quite a few little bugs like that which is annoying as the core game is very good. Like the race taking ages to start after quali

I thought that was because someone decided everyone had to finish the lap they were on, but returning to the pits mid lap doesn't mean you finished your lap. It is annoying though, like relative and the fact you can't see how many laps in the race between the lobby screen and the race itself.
