GT3 had alot more Formula 1 cars in it. I dont know much about rally, but Lanica 037 wasnt base off a rally car.
Alot of the old Le Mans cars, Group C cars, and LMP 1 and 2 cars werent base off of roadcars. There are roadcars that are open wheeled- Ariel Atom, Vanwall, Caterham

Of course it is, theres a reason why there is the F2007 in Prologue.
EVERY car style, EVERY racing style, EVERYTHING related about cars is what GT is.
Which is also what makes it so unique.
Open Wheelers, Stock Cars, GTs, Coupes, Hatchbacks, Station Wagons, Motor Carriages (
), everything drivable.

Lancia 037 is loosely based on the Lancia Montecarlo.
And like already said in this thread: LM, Group C, LMP1/2 cars aren't open-wheeled.
And i'm not totally against open-wheel cars, Caparo T1 would be great

I'm for this too, I rarely watch open wheel racing but would love to race it. Also, I think GT5 might turn into something that Iracing.com is. Where you can download your packs of cars. If you want to race a certain series that's pretty unheard of you can get it.

Bro, you ARE aware that Circuit Gilles Villeneuve(designed for F1) hosts a series of NASCAR races, and it ain't all left turns either.

I've grown up watching open wheel so I am all for it. Especially the late 90's CART machines. Those things were amazing. What I would give to take Little Al's 31 Marlboro car for a spin on the Ring. And personally I think it would be a crime to leave out open wheel cars. Not only are they the ultimate racing machines (imo) but when managed properly can provide the best racing around.

What we are talking about here is mostly lower powered open wheelers, most of which are lower tech than your average modern street car. Infact, most open wheelers are bare minimum tech.
If you're in to driving old school muscle cars, you should be able to see the appeal of driving old school formula cars? Open wheelers have a deep and interesting history, I'd argue more interesting than street cars, so classic race cars would be an awesome addition to any game.
Most those LMP cars are closer to open wheelers in design than any street car, any links they had with street cars were severed a long time ago.
But where do you draw the line? You have street cars, you have modified street cars that can race, you have race cars that look like street cars but bare no relation to them other than the appearance of the shell (its possibly even made from a different material), why draw the line at open wheelers? Especially since GT is a racing game... after all, the whole point of the game is racing on a track. Why limit it to just road cars, which previous GT games never limited themselves to anyway...
I dont see any reason you wouldn't want open wheelers. They are cars, they have a deep and interesting history, they are the epitome of racing, their types are as wide and varied as any other form of car and just like the other hundreds of cars in GT, if you dont like them, dont drive them.

Me too but replacing muscle cars with either Ferraris or JDM cars though if for arguments sake we get 900 cars and we have maybe 200 racers I'd still be happy.

What's the topic here? Are NASCARs open wheelers? Are WRC cars open wheelers?
So what car is the Ford Focus WRC based on? It is based on a road car called the Ford Focus. Irrespective of how many original bits are there, the rally car is still based on a road car, is not an open wheeler so is welcome to be in GT. You seem to have missed my point by miles.
It is my opinion that open wheeled formula race cars should not be in GT. It is my opinion and is not wrong.

Well, it is an opinion, which can't be right or wrong. But I can see merit in this opinion, because if we have too many open-wheelers, GT might turn into a Toca Race Driver type thing. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't mesh with GT's image. I for one would like to have SOME lower-class open-wheelers in the game. I think GT should stick to having one F1 car for those who want to try their hand at it, but the rest should be lower classes, such as those discussed (F3 etc.).
