Just use Google chrome or Firefox.

Hate them both, especially Firefox which has gone seriously downhill on the Mac. I found a couple of lines you can put into Terminal to change the default font and sizing so all is good again.

Basically, the web server is just an Apache2 instance right? Never tried streaming myself, but shouldn't be too hard to setup (e.g. modifying /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and/or add a config file at /private/etc/apache2/other/).

I did everything that the tutorials said and it still isn't working for me. That's my typical experience with computer stuff in general, though.

Have you tried MediaLink? I've used it for maybe 3 or 4 years to stream to my PS3, not only does it provide all my iTunes stuff but it also transcodes almost any format (like .mkv) and you can access and copy just about anything. It's designed for PS3s but between that and the Xbox 360 version (can't remember what it's called) I'm sure there's one that supports the protocol you need. Nullriver software was the company that made it, I think.

I may have to give that a try. I really like the simplicity of doing it through the Roku, but I could use my PS3 or 360 if I had to.

Sorry for the thread from the dead.

El Capitan is out and free. Who is upgrading?

I've decided to go the whole hog and do a bootable USB for the install and start a fresh. Over the last few OS iterations I've just upgraded and I've noticed a small but significant slow down at booting up and just general flicking around the computer.

I'll be installing as soon as I can manage to download it... which will probably be a while considering the only internet I have access to is public wi-fi on base, and the aircraft carrier just pulled in today so pretty much all base facilities are being ransacked and decimated.

Though as long as I can download it before the next OpenEmu update (which'll apparently require El Capitan), I should be golden.

I've been running it for a weeks (developers get early access) and I have had no issues whatsoever. Works brilliantly, will upgrade my other OSX devices soon. :)

so far so good.

I'm just finishing off the obligatory downloads of software after the complete format.

So is this another service pack that apple call an OS, does it have any real improvements over the older version

From my limited use so far I'd have to say nope. Function wise it's still the same but under the hood its had a lot of changes.

Most notably is the use of Metal for the UI heavy lifting so everything is much smoother. Personally I'm liking the small graphical tweaks which I've notices especially the font change.

Really liking the split screen addition and the new font across El Capitan so far.

Yeh It's one feature I've just been trying out and it works flawlessly.

I was planning on updating to El Cap but received an email from Quark yesterday saying that Quark 10 won't be supported on OS X 10.11. Until i've read reports that Q10 is running fine on El Cap, i won't bother.

Did they give an SLA for an update? I'll have to mention this to my graphics buddy as I think he hasn't got a clue.

The email mentions a three week window for an update for Quark 2015, stressing that it could be unstable on El Cap until they update Q2015. But they did specifically point out 'we do not intend to provide support for running any previous version QuarkXPress on El Capitan prior to QuarkXPress 2015' - which is what concerns me as a Quark 10 user.

@TheCracker thats a bit pants of them. It's not like they don't have enough to of a heads up like other devs.

Thanks for letting me know.

Just to add to what i've already said re Quark with El Capitan. Apparently it's the new mouse-movements within OSX 10.11 that at the moment is crashing Quark when the cursor is moved over any of the side palettes. Like i said, Quark will release a patch for Quark2015 - but the issue will persist with any other version of Quark - unless Apple themselves resolve the issue with a future update to OSX 10.11.

You found any other issues with 10.11 yet?

Not yet, I'm sure I'll turn some up as I use it. Especially under heavy load; doing music production or photo editing. So far so go though.

It’s a shame about Quark. I wonder if Apple will fix the issue their end as one of their biggest customer bases are graphic designers and Quark is a widely used application as you know. I'd be surprised if Apple just turned their back and shrugged it off.
