Paint chips?

So from looking at the new pics under the tuning section for GT6, I noticed that they might have done what we wanted with paint chips now. It looks as though they have all chips in categories under each specific finish (matte, metallic, etc.). Now they look like they are to be paid for, but it looks to do away with a lot of the clutter that was the horrendous paint chip system in GT5. If you didn't catch the pics here they are:

This might be old to you guys, but I went back a few pages and didn't see any topics about this. What are your thoughts on this change? I personally welcome it and look forward to the cleaner setup.

Yep,definitely glad to be able to see what colour my car is going to be before I spray it.:) but trading isn't looking likely with this and with all cars available on day one.

I don't mind that part at all, because now we will have all the unlimited colors we desire. To me, it's worth the price.

I also am loving the fact that we can now preview the specific paint on the given car.

How many chips were wasted in GT5 due to not being able to preview it ? Looks good on the 'Vette, looks like crap on the 3000GT. Been there and done it. :guilty:

I like that they made it this way. Only thing I dislike is the price of the paint itself.. :banghead:

Anything to reduce all the "clutter" collections is a great thing, I think. Though I can appreciate there are those who enjoy the idea of collecting 100% of the game. I wonder what kinds of collections in general may be part of the game, i.e. Museum Cards.

This nothing but a positive in my opinion. It puts a tremendous premium on game credits. 5000 Cr. to paint your car Metallic is pricey if the awards are what they were in GT5 pre-Seasonals and log-in bonuses.

I wasn't aiming for negative sir, just an observation,5k may be pricey but it's an incentive to keep racing,I suppose it depends on how many A-spec events we get to whether it will actually be grinding or not and yeah I agree with what you said about clearing up the clutter.👍 Museum cards weren't something that really interested me(i.e I'd look something up online if I wanted to) and with no way of deleting them they kept adding to the items limit and horns too.

Just in case you guys were wondering, you still have to collect the paint chips, be it from buying cars or special events, just check the description for the paint system on the gran-turismo.com website.

@con360 Yea I was just going to say that. But you don't have to collect them like in gt5, since we can use them as many times as we want.Plus i'm sure there will already be a number of paint chips in the garage day one because 1.The screenshot has a crap load of paints, and I highly doubt they bought a car for each of those chips and 2.If its like GT5, we will get paint chips daily. So technically, buying a car isn't the only way to acquire paints.

"PD never listen to anything the community wants!" I'm really glad that the paintchips are gone and we can preview them now.
I think what the community wanted was no paint chips at all. A paint mixer, wheel or whatever, so you can go to one place without having to scroll through thousands of chips, sloooooooowly, to find what you want. The only thing that has changed is the preview and the fact that once you acquire a chip you can use it multiple times.

What's wrong with the square set up? Most games use that set up to show paint colors (GTA V and Forza 4 come to mind) and it's not a problem for anybody. You can easily tell from the screenshots that the chips are organized by paint type and then by hue so finding what you want shouldn't be an issue.

Also, we don't really know yet how you will get colors but the way it looks from the screenshots you seem to have a lot of options right off the bat because I doubt the verison of the game the shots were taken from had all of those cars bought just for the color options.

People wanted easier access to colors as well as being able to preview the colors before buying them. We now that both of those things.

My memory is a little fuzzy but I seem to recall that GT5 paint chips were also sorted by type and then hue, so like I said, all that's changed is the preview and not losing the chip once you use it. The interface for finding a paint is the same. You should have access to all paint colours at all times, and just pay to spray the car, since when do you have to buy an entire car to get access to a paint colour?

They are organized in the same manner but they have removed a couple of the layers needed to get to the color you want, or as others have put it "removed the clutter". Also as others have been saying, it looks like you start off with colors to begin with. Now, we won't know until the game launches of course. But in GT5 we get a lot of paints from things like logging in.

The bottom line is such a system shouldn't exist in the first place or at least not on its own. I see the appeal in painting cars with "real" colors. But some of us don't care. There should be an alternative for those who don't want to put up with paint chips at all.

And if we really are given a lot of paint chip options from the start, those screenshots are not doing a good job of showing it. The pearlescent selection is poor. There should be WAY more to choose from than that because there are literally a 1000+ pearl paint chips in GT5. Notice how there are no scrolling indicators like the ones in the screenshot above it.

Same goes with the metallic paint. I highly doubt that the screenshot is showing all 1891 shades of metallic paint that are available in GT5, or even a big fraction of that.

Actually what I've read the most is that you still have to acquire the paint chips and the $$ figure beside it is simply the cost of painting which is supported by this statement from PD:
In addition to car body paint supplied in the colour of the cars you have acquired, in the future there will also be special paint items that will be distributed in online events.
Essentially it says you acquire cars to get paint, and you'll also get them from online events. Nowhere does it say you start with a selection or that you can simply buy them which would be much better IMO.

I see the point your making, and I agree that it's a bit of an odd way to do it and that some people find it annoying. But like I said you do see seem to start with something at least and they give people something to collect. It isn't perfect but it's still much, much better than it was in GT5 and it's certainly due to the feedback they got from the community.

Like I said we won't really know until we get our hands on the game. But the screenshots make it look like you do get at least something from the start and in the description it doesn't really say anything about starting off with paint but then again those summaries also aren't a full description of each feature.

Just thinking about this, it would kind of make sense that a good 60% of the paint chips were available from day 1, which just cost, and then from doing certain races (just going out on a whim here and say... Special Ferrari 1 make race) you get a special colour that can then be used for free (Rosso Scuderia)? Because in all honesty you wouldn't find that specific colour in a paint shop... but you would on a Ferrari, and so it would give an incentive to race. Want Caterham Green? Race the Caterham 7 in a special race. Etc etc. But of course, 60% of paints would still mean at the very least a good 600 different colours to paint a single car. Combine that with the parts and number of cars and you have 109,200,000 unique combinations, at the very least (assuming 1000 cars can be painted and 182 different combinations for visual tweaks for all cars). I say that is good going!

Of course, maybe it would be a bit tedious, but I would enjoy racing for things other than just credits. Maybe race a certain number of races in a Ferrari to unlock the Ferrari Race suit? :P

A limited number of "special" paints from selected races or online events is fine, but all the basic colours should be available from day 1.
