The patch contains many updates including :

- New car - Formula BMW FB02
- Updated South City track
- Updated Blackwood track
- Improved AI drivers
- Improved Physics

- New training lessons


The story behind the Formula BMW :

There is a new UK based company called V1 Championship whose aim is to discover a new racing driver through a series of tests resulting in a place in a team for the winning driver. V1 will be launched in 2008 and shown on TV in the UK. Live for Speed will be used as part of the selection process, before testing in real cars. V1 asked us to create a Formula BMW to make this test as realistic as possible. BMW Motorsport gave us permission to build the car in LFS, so we went ahead and built it.

The V1 car is owned by Fortec Motorsport where V1 is based. Thanks to V1 and Fortec, our programmer Scawen Roberts was able to get a test day driving the Formula BMW and that helped a lot with the realism of the LFS version of the car.

The Formula BMW is really fun to drive, lots of grip. I'll miss the XRT a lot though,

There's nothing stopping demo players from keeping two installations of LFS on their computer -- one S2X, and the other the most recent version. If you don't have much hard drive space and really like the XRT, there's nothing stopping you from just keeping S2X, either.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that that's the best solution.

When I get a better comp and a G25 I for sure will be getting S2. My current computer nearly dies playing LFS when there's more than 5 people in a room, and getting a measly 10fps makes it hard.

Although some of them just cannot take it around the track without taking him and a few others out. Kinda makes me mad how someone managed to nearly take the whole field out on the 1st turn in a room yesterday..... BTW, what kind of times are you guys running the FBM on the blackwood track? I can only manage a low 1:19 on a stock setup, but I see people running 1:14's-1:17's.

i've been racing mostly on south city configurations, but i think i was able to get down into the 1:14's on the few laps i've driven around blackwood. you guys are missing out on some scary racing.... Southcity is much more dangerous than blackwood... the undulations... the railroad tracks, and no gravel traps or grass, just metal or concrete walls to cussion you.\

I'm into the 1'16's on Blackwood but my set up needs work, as does my driving around that track.

As for the new South City config, I'm stuck in the 1'08's with no sign of improvement any time soon..

cool, I downloaded it. Its good fun, but the Formula BMW doesnt change gear properly for me. Its hard to explain, other than it simply refuses to chagne gear at times, and has un unussual delay between gears making it painful to drive, I might just change the ratio, and effectively turn it into a 3 speed gear box, as the lower gears arent as much of a problem.

stevisiov90 when changing gears in the formula bmw, you will need to lift of the throttle when up shifting and down shifting.

hmm, I have always had the game set to auto blip throttle, I belive you can no longer do this in patch Y. I am just going to check my settings.

yep in the new patch they have removed auto blip all together.

for the real formula bmw, you have to lift at least partially to change gear (most of the time)

I have tried this and it helps, but gear changing is still far to slow to even be called leisurely, it must take at least 5 times longer than any other car in the game, is this the case for everyone?

nope, gear change is almost instantaneous for me. maybe you just need more practice. or your not shifting with the fastest method? I just lift off just enough to change gear. I'll post a vid of me doing a single player hotlap with the bars showing.

If your using a keyboard your probably doing what I did and trying to do it very quickly which doesn't work, I've learnt to be a bit more gentle and smoother with the keys now, still make mistakes if I'm sprinting against someone.

I'm so use to doing it now I went back to GT4 and lifted off to change gear

Can't wait to get my DFP

I was originally doing it with my keyboard, I have even tried it with my joystick which has improved shift times but I can do the shifting action well with out damaging the CT.

My G25 is currently broken and it is ruining LFS for me, I am utterly hopeless with the keyboard and joystick, thanks of the help though. I think I will wait for the G25 to be fixed/replaced.

I agree, the FBMW is bit annoying before you get used to it.. but it is SO fast.. constant 1'21-1'19's are possible. I'm still testing different settings, but I think I'm getting pretty close to overall setup that I like.

Some people are getting constant 1:14's-1:17's!

Managed my best at blackwood the other day, a high 1:18. The car has so much grip and downforce, it's sometimes a hit or miss with entry speeds in this thing for me.
