 The gun reticle is really tricky to use. I think you were firing a bit too early. You gotta wait till the wing span of the Mig matches the lower line along the snake... I think lol. I've only ever had luck if I get a radar lock first so it shows a normal-ish circular reticle (like on other planes) which I find much easier to line up.

Yeah I'm going to look it up because it took me some time to get decent kills with the canon.. Getting a missile lock isn't that simple either. You really have to place the thingy on the enemy on the radar. A little bit off and it locks nothing. Going to try out heat seeking missiles next time.

Great fighter though, turn rates are excellent. Need to get used to it more, on the video was only my third hour flying with it. Landings are awkward...

First aerial refueling attempt.

Second attempt went a bit better and I actually managed to connect and get some fuel (for about 1 second or so). :D

Man this is hard!

With what plane were you trying? Tried it with the Eagle a few times but can't even get close to get some fuel running.. :scared:

Radar is still finicky at best and the missiles are garbage. Finding targets on radar can be tricky and time consuming but I've not had problems once locked on. The 530D does require you to hold the lock manually all the way until the end... which is incredibly annoying. The Magics are better about that since they're heatseakers. The effective range on both suck but Razbam is trying to fix that.

And for landings, I find it best to approach how I normally would in any plane and then start to flare out on minimums to achieve that 14* angle of attack required to land. I've tried holding 14*s all throughout final approach before and it just never works out. So wait till the end before getting the AoA right and you should see nicer landings as a result 👍

I remember a short, but funny DCS video about a guy trying to calmly explain the refueling process. 30 seconds in, the video just cuts to him gunning down the KC-135. I believe he was using an A-10, but I can't find the video anymore.

Uninstalled some games I didn't play anymore so I had room again for DCS 1.5. Was only playing 2.0 but I kinda missed the old map. Didn't play with the settings, these screens are on low textures and HDR off

And back on full quality/HDR on going RTB on 1 engine, enjoying the sundown :P

This was a thing that happened. Flying into battle and suddenly a crap load of blips come up on radar. There may or may not have been a team mate in that group somewhere (I love a non functional IFF) and I had another off to the right somewhere. Basically 3 of us against what ended up being at least 8 reds. I managed to get 3 kills out of it even with the 530Ds still failing at life. The red AI were using guns only, but still :D

That was one of those instant war hero stories... "So there I waaas, outnumbered 8 ta 3. The IFF wusn't workin and mah missiles were crap..."

Maybe it's just the red lighting, but that cockpit looks so cool.

(Spoof of Wanye Gretzki's famous quote)

:banghead:

I took two shots at a Tu95 from behind at a range of about 3 miles. Both missed by a mile.

On a lighter note, I found a Razgriz livery for the M2K :D

How the hell does a missile miss a Tu-95? The plane is half the size of Russia!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now that I think about it I'm guessing it was just the result of the Tu95 jamming. From the Mirage I had no indication that it was jamming radar, but when I hopped in the F-15C (out of rage) to finish off the last Tu95, I could see that it was. I had no problem shooting that one down though, so meh.

They better fix those missiles @GregTheStig , have you tried refueling?

I've not tried it yet but I know it's going to go horribly  I can barely match another aircraft's speed. Every adjustment I make to the throttle is followed by a slow 1-2% drop in RPM, so I'm sort of rubber-banding back and forth. Keeping altitude constant is also hard for me but I'm practicing :)

There's a new update out for DCS 2. For the Mirage at least, it's included several good fixes and it seems to have actually made the weapons a little better, especially the laser guided bombs. They also FINALLY GAVE US FUNCTIONING LANDING LIGHTS! :D

Also, funny kill cam from a mission...

With a few Dutch guys we are trying to connect Dutch DCS users. It is going pretty well with 15 new members in this week alone. I was flying with a few of them yesterday in the Su-33. First time in this jet for me, let alone try to land on a carrier. Went better than expected :P

Very handy update, you can now see friendlies in the radar!

No news this week and no 2.0.. time for a rant?

Nah not until they push a major release back [way] more than once again :P Now that 2.0 and NTTR are finally out they've been a lot better at pushing updates. The Mirage especially has become much better since December.

Does anyone know how hard it is to create aircraft mods in DCS? The F-117 Nighthawk is already available to AI, but I wonder how long it would take for it to be player-controlled. Supposedly, the F-117 is very unstable at low speeds, which lead to the name "Wobblin' Goblin," although it's pilots say otherwise, most likely due to the fly-by-wire system keeping the jet in control. How many jets in DCS use fly-by-wire, if any?

`
To my knowledge only the Mirage.. `

Speaking of, I just did some ILS landings and it works pretty fine. Not all the time, somehow when I put the autopilot on landing it goes retarded. @GregTheStig what do I do wrong? :P
