A Peugeot 806 isn't a car that springs to mind when choosing a car for a race, even less so for an endurance race. Nevertheless Peugeot's Belgian division decided to field one in the legendary Spa 24 Hours in 1995, in the Procar class (a class filled with other production based cars including the Golf GTI, Peugeot 306 and BMW M3). Initially the car was greeted with some scepticism and even calls for it to be banned from the event. Some suggesting that the monospace structure and high centre of gravity would make the car too dangerous. Eventually the RACB, Belgium’s motorsports governing body, declared that the car did meet all the technical requirements of Procar Division 2 (effectively FIA Class 2) and should be allowed to race.
The car was far from the standard 806, using the same engine as the Group A 306 Peugeot was using in the WRC at the time along with suspension and gearbox from the 405 Supertouring car. It qualified 3rd in it's class (and 12th overall) but was unable to finish the race, due to engine problems.
