Best I've done so far in a PMC, just wish that Viper shot wasn't so damn good, even I voted for it (but then I couldn't vote for myself).

Still more than happy as its one of the best shots I've taken.

Regards

Scaff

440, I'd like to ask one question about my pic which didn't get picked? :) I'm very new at PM and I'd like to know what made you not chose it.
I'm not complaining, but I'd just like to learn...

Sure!:)

First off, there were a lot of fantastic shots to start with. You had to bring a really great shot to get in this week, and it was tough to leave a lot of shots out, but you gota do what you gota do.

(I hope I am not too demeaning here or anything, but this is my critique and honest opinion.)
As for your picture, it has kind of a bland, plain color to it, and it does'nt really have a whole lot of contrast. I think that color gold can be made to look really nice, but you need to mess around with the exposure settings in GT4 along with the white balance. I always try to increase the exposure in GT4 to around +4 to +6, because they always turn out dark on the computer screen. Than I would try and find some kind of photo editing software like photoshop so you can adjust the brightness and contrast. If you search around I think you can find some free photo editing software, and I think a few people around here know of some.

And also on your picture, you did'nt do to hot of job on fixing the poor rendering capabilities of the PS2. That's all of the jaggies and poka doted textures on the car. There is'nt much you can do about that except try to get an angle where they are not as visable. And sometimes some of that can be minimized by again messing around with the exposrue and white balance settings. Now while the camera angle was'nt that bad, (and is similar to the shot that is blowing everyone away!) the shot just did not have that pop that I was looking for. It did'nt really catch my eye that much. I don't want to sound mean or anything, but you just have to learn and get more aquanted with photomode and soon you will be turing out great shots week after week. It took me awhile to get a good grasp of how to take decent shots, but I am doing ok now, sooo... Explore photomode, take A LOT of shots from different angles and different settings, and that's really all I can suggest.:)

The first shot is really nice. But not really because of the wheels. The composition of black, white and red is really awesome though.

So I voted for... um... that blue skyline (LM edition i guess) with the yellow in the wheels.
Now that is one fine wheel shot! 👍

I also like the beetle though. 👍

(yes, I'll try to post mine today :banghead: )

I have to congratulate Brock for winning this week with a big margin
Good enough to be used on Meguiar's ad or other wax products' cover

I am little surprise that not many response after you posted your entry

440, I'd like to say thanks for your hints.
Now I read all of it I know what can be complained about my picture..
I thought photoshop shouldn't be used in this competition. :indiff:

Once more thanx, I hope I can become better.

Here's my :banghead:, hehe.

Not a winner though, but still decent, I think.
In the game, those rims look awesome on that car though (Bridgestone 4th from the right, I think).

Not trying to bring down anyone, but I still don't get why the black 400R is in the poll... It's extremely blurry and the colors are washed out.

Oh well.

Thanks for all the kind words about my shot, I put a lot of work into it and am very happy with the result :)

fwiw this is how it came about, it was the fourth car / travel location combo I tried. The others were a Red Monaro in the bamboo (rejected as being too similar to scaff's, plus I didn't like the wheels), a Purple Commodore (too much bling), a Shelby Mustang in the fish market (much better but it just didn't stand out enough) and finally the Viper shot, which was inspired by the Mustang one.

By this time I knew exactly what sort of shot I wanted, a long focal length with the car on a deep angle to get both wheels in frame. The position was chose to have a dark background, with light hitting the car on the side to show up the wheels.

As for the choice of car & wheels, I'd tested lot but was't really happy with any of the aftermarket wheels on different cars, so I thought to myself "what cars have nice wheels as stock and also have nice curves?" The viper immediately came to mind as it has unique wheels as well as nice lines, plus it was available in black, which I though would help make the wheels stand out even more. Racing tyres were added to accentuate the wheel size and suspension was lowered (but not too much).

After a bit of testing I got the car & camera positions just right, then it was down to finding the right settings to take the photo with. From memory I used the mature colour filter, one degree of WB into the red and exposure as dark as possible, as I planned to increase contrast in PS. That got the following shot, which was cropped very tightly and had + 5 of brightness and + 80 of contrast!

Darn... didn't get even a mention, but well, you can't always win. So I'm cool with 440's decision. I voted for the blue Skyline with the chrome wheels (by div maybe...) A great picture. I thought it would have a BIG lead but it seems it doesnt quite have that. Hope I'll get a better shot next week.

excellent writeup brock
I found it very interesting that you turned the brightness down in GT4
gotta try it next time

You put a lot of effort into your picture Brock and its paid off

wow 440, that makes me feel really good for getting in this week. 👍

Not many pics give me any emotion, but those old GTSs just look sweet.

Thanks to all who voted for my pic, I'm glad you all like it so much :)

I've decided to hand over the winner's honours to last week's runner-up hurngt, who came so very close in the tie-breaker poll. He has suggested a great theme that I'm sure you'll all enjoy 👍
