Rocking out at the 12 Apostles on my recent vacation down to Victoria to do the Great Ocean road drive.

We were there last Monday/Tuesday. Drove Newcastle to Apollo Bay Monday. Apollo Bay - 12 Apostle etc then on to Adelaide Tuesday. Would like to go back and spend about a week there.

How did you find the drive, or was it a ride with work?
It really is a wonderfull road to drive, the scenery is beutifull as well. I'd hate to know how many times I've driven as I live close enough to do it when I please.

What was you route?
Angelsea-Lorne-Apollo Bay-Port Campbell? Or did you cut inland at some stage to shorten the journey?

Cheers Shaun.

Thankfully it wasn't too cold but it was really windy. Rained a little too, however it didn't dampen the mood.

Haha so I see! ;) Think I had my woolly hat on when I was there!

When we did part of the ocean road a couple of years back we stayed in Lorne. Really nice wee place and on the day we were leaving there were some whales about 20m away from the pier thing. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen. 👍

Yeah Lorne is a nice little spot.
Even though we are close the missus and I have stayed there a couple of times for a weekend.
At New Years time it turns into a little party town. Also once a year they have a swim race called the pier to pub. I'll let you work out the specifics of that race :sly:.

Cheers Shaun.

We stayed in Lemonade Cottages, really nice and really quiet. 👍
That swim race sounds phenomenal! I'll need to make my next visit coincide with that. :D

Edit: Lmao AT!

:scared: From Newcastle, that's a big drive! We did Sydney to Portland in one hit. That was pretty gruelling as I was the sole driver. We spent a bit over a week in the area before moving onto Mt Buffalo and then Melbourne before the return trip to Sydney. My wife and I felt like the week wasn't enough to see and do everything we wanted to in the region so we plan to head back next summer.

The drive (particularly Great Ocean Rd) was pretty amazing. Really enjoyed the drive and since we spent a week in the region, I got to do stretches of it a few times. The drive down was nasty as it was really long, however I did get my second wind when we hit the Great Ocean rd after I think about 10 or so hours already on the road. As per my usual fashion, I hadn't bothered to look at a single map before getting in the car and my wife neglected to tell me that from Torquay it's still a very long drive to Portland, especially if you take the scenic route and have two very naughty kids in the back. This has got to be one of those ultra rare blissful moments when they were both asleep:

We may have over packed the x-trail just a tad

Edit:  Awesome work Alex. That's gold! Shem looks a little too clean cut with that hairstyle however.

Nah plenty of room left.
Seems your wife was also tierd or didn't think much of the view. :sly:

Glad you enjoyed it though, it's a nice part of Australia.

Cheers Shaun.

Fixed. ;)

That's the new clean living Shem from the future. A bit of a make over I'll admit, but it just shows what you can do with hair straighteners these days.

Btw, I have to say that the resolution and sharpness of speed cameras in Aus is top notch. :sly:

1200kms day one - we left 5am and got to Apollo Bay 7pm. Bit slow getting past Melbourne. 856kms the next day - took 12 hours but we spent a lot of time in and out of the car taking photos and being tourists. I was sole driver too - damn Jack and his lack of license. The only reason we went back that way was because of the flooding in middle of NSW, didn't want to do the whole trip (1600kms) in one day on my own so figured if I was going do it in two days I may as well make the stop over worth it. Normally I would stop at my cousins house 1/2 hour from Forbes but the roads in and out of Forbes were all closed.
