Pikes Peak Hill Climb 2013

Loeb's hillclimb video is insane and just further suggests he's superhuman. But what's up with the camera angle around 2:45-2:50? Did they put a camera in his belt buckle?

Peugeot apparently did some computer simulations a few days ago that suggested that, if the conditions were absolutely bang on, the fastest he could do would be 8:15...

Yep.

Short of an F1 or a full-on LMP, I don't see anything with 4 wheels beating his time soon.

The only way I see this time being beat is if manufactures take this serious like they use to in the 80s and 90s. Then hirer someone that is close to Loeb's level and hope they've built a better car that will beat the Peugeot.

So yeah probably not for the next 5-10 years

McLaren should throw a 12C Can-Am Edition into the mix. You know, the pumped-up GT3 car.

They better bring their F1 car instead. Not sure how the 12C Can-Am would beat a purpose built hill climbing car that had a 1:1 power to weight ration distribution, and parts from their P1 car that raced at Le Mans.

One thing's for sure, with the pavement all the way, we're going to see crazier and crazier cars as the years go by.

And now I'm curious as to just how fast an older F3000, like you'd see in the European events, could go over the mountain.

The problem is that F3000 cars are naturally aspirated (power drops off significantly at high elevations) and rely on high speeds for downforce. Also, even though it's paved, Pikes Peak highway is quite rough in places like Glen Cove & The Ski Area, and formula cars have very little ground clearance and supsension travel. There are only a few genuinely high speed corners at pikes peak, so low speed downforce is more important. With so many low speed corners, power, low speed aero, and traction are the most important considerations at pikes peak. I really don't think an F3000 car would be faster than this time set by Loeb. But I sure would like to see!

You need something with lots of turbo-power, high speed grip and low speed traction, coupes with low weight.

The problem with a single-seater is that it will be RWD and with the extreme amounts of power you need for PP, it wouldn't be able to put it down fully on corner exits like the 208 T16 and similar cars.

I'd love to see something like a, 908 or R15/R18 (de-restricted of course)tackle the Peak, but I reckon they just wouldn't have the low speed grip and traction to compete.

Certainly not, but the R18's V6 in the back of something with more or less the shape of a TT, with the e-tron system and huge wings surely would be something worth seeing.

I just don't think Walter Röhrl would be up for it.

Audi still have the quattro concept they never got around to making. Imagine a Pikes version of that

I forgot about the e-Tron part of the R18, obviously without that silly 120km/h rule that applies to it in WEC. If still have it in the R18 body/chassis as well as its quite compact and has a small front area, and obviously as you say up the size of the wings alot.

This is basicaly what the Peugeot was.

I think AWD or 4wd is a must tho if you want to have any chance at the record
