Pit penalties

Every time I race the new daily race at watkins glen I get a 3 sec pit penalty when i'm clearly not going over the line. it has cost me 3 wins (very frustrating)
Can any one tell me whats happening please

As soon as one of your tires touches the line at the entrance and/or exit, you will get the penalty, so you really have to be careful.

A tip, if you start the race with medium and drive to the pits in lap 4-5, if you have touched the entry line, you can stop entering the pits and simply drive to the start/finish. Then there is no penalty and you can try again one lap later.

Pit penalty is more difficult at the Glen, but it's realistic. That's how the real track is so we just need to deal with it. You just need to be very careful on pit entry. Going cautiously slow may cost .500" in lap time, but well worth it.

Personally, I've done this race at least a dozen times and I only got a pit penalty once... literally the first race. Just be careful, ride the curb on the right at entry and you'll be fine.

Stay in the lines guys... easy as that. Not trying to be blunt, but this isn't a racing incident where an opinion is required... it's pretty cut and dry. It's probably just coded right into the game: If tires over line, then 3.0 penalty.

It's a bummer, I get it... but if you get a pit lane penalty it's because you screwed up.

One thing that could make a difference, if the game had the ability to change FOV, the game uses a wide FOV something like 70 deg this makes things appear further away and smaller than they actually are,
plus a wide FOV makes it appear as if you are going faster than your actual speed, so the pit entrance looks smaller.

GT5 had something that was similar to FOV in the driving options, but not actually FOV adjustment, called wide, zoom & extra zoom for the interior view.

I had this issue yesterday. If you keep picking up penalties save the replay and then watch back to see where you keep having the problem.

This is what cost me yesterday on the pit entry.

One thing I found a Watkins Glen is that the pit entry is before the corner so you need to be far right and slowing down before then

OK I'll have a look. Tried again last night and STILL got bastard penalties that cost me the race even though I swore I was safe. Aaaarggggh

I've had penalties of 3 or even 6 seconds here, every single race! Thanks @MikeU64 for pointing out it starts before the corner..... I have been lining up after the corner and then it is impossible NOT to touch the line. Going to have a good look on time trial and practice.

EDIT - yup, it starts miles from the pit entrance! And talk about narrow!
I'd be faster entering as normal and getting a penalty than slowing down so much for that! But I'd also lose the cr.100k CRB every time too.....

I think the color might be causing an issue on that track most other tracks have white pit lines but not there there dull yellow.

Happens to me often at Deep Forest pit exit, having to be much more careful than with track boundaries.

Actually the rule was changed by FIA for 2022. Now the whole tire as to go over the line to get a penalty, not just touch the line.
That's why Perez didn't get a penalty on pit exit at Monaco.
