Greetings and salutations; I registered here last night after Google pointed me here as the 1st hit for my Formula Gran Turismo tuning inquiry and needed to register before I could access what turned out to be a blank form one can use to record settings (on actual paper no less). After wading through posts for 45 minutes I applied what I learned and golded the series, somewhat easily actually which surprised me because the 'ring GP/F was previously ridiculously impossible in previous attempts.
I reside in Reston, VA, which is between Washington and Dulles Airport and work for a non-profit educational organization that aims to improve government, specifically in it's use and application of IT products and services (everything is business process these days). I generally work too much but I love my job so it doesn't feel like it until the flames burning on both sides of the candle meet.
My first exposure to GT was GT
after getting a G35 wheel and finding it unplayable in Burnout: Paradise. Going back a bit farther, my first PS was a PS3 after my nephew loaned me his when my 360 red-ringed for the 2nd time in 2 months and MS support was lackluster, to say the least. So while I had first heard about GT because of The Cardigans back in the '90s my first drive was only 3 or so years ago.
GT
sucked me in and I very slowly learned how to drive cleanly, finishing all of the races/tests in a few weeks. I had fun trying to race cleanly with random GT Planet racers I found in a few online lounges, and apologies to one of you as I totally braked way too late and bumped someone into the sand on one of the turns at Fuji. Though I did enjoy GT
beyond what I expected I found myself losing interest when thinking of how I'd have to unpack my driving rig whenever I wanted to play it.
I picked up GT5 somewhat on a whim after getting a surprise day off work on launch day and ended up playing 14 hours straight or so (my nephew lives with me and woke up at 3 AM to go to the bathroom and gave me a strange look; I went to bed after finishing that race). I've since played through the Extreme Series on two IDs (finally golding the Formula series last night; one benefit of the PSN outage is that I've had the opportunity to "clean up" the races I missed or didn't have all golds for).
I really, really enjoy the racing side of GT5 and have been organizing a Tuesday night series since November '10 with my internet gaming friends (most of which I met through Warhawk when I first switched over to the PS3). We do three races at 10 PM Eastern on Tuesday nights:
1) Spec race using an unmodified car (for the most part - we usually use Racing Hard tires unless there's a good reason not to) usually from the "Recommended Cars" list
2) HP/Kg Tuner race - these are either HP/Kg based or are sometimes themed, such as '75 and older Japanese cars at 200 hp/1000 kg
3) "Race Car Race" - either using something from the Recommended Cars list or a pre-determined class (such as JGTC, NASCAR, etc.); I just realized you can have Kart races on all tracks so the last few have been using Karts (Karts on the 'ring FTW)
If anyone would like to join you are welcome to do so; we use my lobby (Wardenclyffe) which is open to the public. We'll typically have somewhere between 4 at the lowest to a dozen in the lounge but it's been some time since we've had more than 9 in the lounge. Weekly race details are posted at the Discussion Board my internet friends use (one of the many NOM clans that I'm sure exist now; I'm not going to spam the link but will pass it on if folks are interested). My internet friends are good people but there's only a few of us that can drive fast without bumping, so fair warning should you decide to join us. The next race, PSN willing, will be: F40 Spec race, 440 hp/1200 kg HP Tuner race and Karts for the Race Car race, all on the 14-ish mile 'ring track (my personal favorite).
I am also interested in joining others for races as I still play this almost daily. As previously mentioned I tend to work too much and probably won't be able to come back and check this board during the work day, which often becomes the work evening/night.
